Lex and Terry are back in Jacksonville

I get newsletter emails from Terry and this was in the latest one:

FINALLY!
God we've missed you FREAKVILLE!

Although I can't give the exact station yet, I can say that the LEX AND TERRY SHOW will be returning to Jacksonville, Fl - April 1st. No Joke. And we're coming back a little pissed! You'll notice a couple of staff changes, but I can honestly say, the show has NEVER sounded better.

We look forward to MANY visits (as it's part of our deal). Tell everyone you know!

I'd also like to thank the many sponsors who have already jumped on board. When you hear an advertiser on or show, make sure you thank them! They're the reason we're able to come back. Radio is changing, and it's more important than ever to show support to the people who advertise on our show!

I'll send out another email when I can say the station etc .. But make no mistake about it, we'll be back April 1st - LIVE from FREAKVILLE!

The question remains....were they really missed?

Apparently management at the station affiliating with L&T believe the program will bring in the desirable morning numbers in the target demo. However, the PPM results will tell the real story.

One thing is for sure in Gainesville, it has catapulted the ratings and revenue for WHHZ already. But, as Mark pointed out... PPM is a very different story. We'll see...

Mixed success with the givers depending on the market, PPM, etc....The bigger question is this: Where are these guys in their career? Still ascending, or stagnant or worse in decline? Been out of Jax for sometime now, not sure they are missed and what their impact will be upon return. Another big question, who can afford them?

Decline, definately. Burnt bridges with Cox & CC. Makes it harder to secure new affiliates. Very little, if any, local buzz remains for them. Renda or Pamal are probably the only ones left who make take a chance locally.

As for helping WHHZ, I'd say taking rock off of 103.7 did more to help in ratings. When you're the only rocker in a big college town, it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

I agree with this statement completely. WHHZ has signal problems covering Gainesville proper which works towards 100.5's disadvantage. However, the fact that WRUF-FM is no longer a direct format competitor leaves WHHZ with the only demand new rock format in the market which increases its ratings, somewhat at least, by default. I'm sure Lex and Terry have attracted some former Rock 104 listeners which certainly helps in contributing to the overall bottom line. The only other rocker in the market is classic rock Wind FM.

There isn't a lack of rock in Gainesville, just less of it.

One contemporary rock station, one classic rock stations. Now the 5 country stations on the other hand....

WOGK, WDVH, WTRS, WEAG, WRUF.

Some AM station nobody listens to?

Could very well be possible... below is from today's issue of RAMP.

RAMP has confirmed with the Lex & Terry camp that the boys are indeed making their radio return to Jacksonville via the magic of syndication on April 1. The guys were based in J-Ville forever until they relocated the show to swanky new studios in Dallas last year. Local armchair quarterbacks had been loudly speculating that L&T would be a natural fit on Renda's WSOS-FM, which recently flipped from Soft AC to Classic Rock, but we hear that scenario is not happening. We have heard unconfirmed reports that conversations have taken place with Seven Bridges Radio Sports outlet WJXL-AM (1010XL). In any event, their actual destination may be revealed this week, as L&T tell RAMP, "An announcement on what station will probably be made on air this Friday." With that, we advise you to stay tuned.

Last time I heard WHHZ, it was Alternative, I assume it's active rock now.

Gainesville should be a good enough town to have 1 AOR, 1 Classic Rock, 1 Classic Hits (Jack), 1 AAA, 1 Alternative and 1 Active Rock station... especially since there's no non-commercial student/college/alternative/free form station in the market.

Looking at another Land Grant college town, Auburn, they have WEGL (non-com College), The Tiger (Alt), The Rock (AAA), Rock 103 (AOR) plus several other flavors of rock from Montgomery and Columbus (I doubt it's easy to pick up Atlanta stations there anymore). Oh, and they also have plenty of Country. I'd really expect Gainesville to have several MORE rock stations than Auburn.
