Well it looks like they're on they're way to screwing up another good station...

I think the givers are giving 98 some heartburn

They just put in a 2.7 with ADULTS 18-34.

SAD

Dude where have you been? Lex and Terry didnt bring down the station....the PD has done crap with the station since he's been there. He has like a 29% passer rating if this was a QB rating in football. Time to send in the backup. 98Rock hasn't done over a 3.0 in well over a year or more!, but like Big Rig says, Ratings dont matter there... okay, yeah!

Billing is all that matters, my good man. As long as 98 is raking in the cash, you would be better off listening to your Last.fm station.

98Rock like alot of stations are stuggling with revenue right now. Its down again in July and Aug. Its everywhere and not just 98Rock though. Still if 98Rock don't change some things, starting with the PD/MD.. then I wouldnt be surprised to see 98Rock gone in 6months or so!

Who listens to Last F.M.? lol I actually listen to about 8 different rock stations. KHTQ,WRIF,WJJO,WJRR,KZRR,WMMS,KSHE,WIIL,WONE and a few others at times! :)

You completely misunderstood what he said. 98's billing is probably just fine, meaning that those lovely playlists will not get any closer to reality anytime soon....

I would be willing to bet that SB would get sick of JRR if he lived in Orlando for 6 months. Same thing for Detroit, Pittsburgh or any other place. Fact is, there are only so many good testing songs that will ever see the air on a regular basis.

The obscure stuff he seems to dig is not in regular rotation on a successful radio station anywhere for a reason. That stuff appeals to a small group of people and that equals low ratings that translate into less revenue. Pretty simple really. I know hearing the same thing every day can suck, but most people don't drive a truck for a living and listen for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Average people use the radio much less than you would think. The goal is to be playing a song that a typical listener in the target demo likes every time they turn the radio on, or they are gone. While I am not a fan of what the big companies have done to homogenize playlists nationwide, you can't argue that repetitive radio still makes money.

And will someone please explain to this dude that 12+ means nothing. Old farts fill out diaries.

Holy Crap.. BackRib you dont know crap about the listener! First off JRR isnt that of a station. They play alot of the same 90s crap that suxs! 2ndly Your Assesment on the average 20 min listener is done all wrong! The average listener wants to hear NOT A FREAKING RECOGNIZABLE SONG when turn on the radio, but a "New Song" from a band they "Recognize" or a "New Song" from a "New Band"! The average 20 min listener dont want to hear the same song over and over again thats played DAY IN AND DAY OUT! Thats why you lose people! Same crap different day, so Your thinking like a Suit! and the Suits have it all wrong! All you morons in radio that think like that brings your station down! And finally them stations I mentioned above are getting HIGH RATINGS and are working well in most MidSize Markets and Top 20 Markets. It's been tested... its been Proven, so you have to look outside this Market and see why their ratings and their revenue is higher than yours and Why It Is Working! That is why you fail!

We all have our opinions on what will make radio work, sometimes you have to become the listener and get out of the radio business to really see and feel why we all go to Sirius and other radio outlets!

This is how you do a Active Rock Station. You play 60% New Rock.. 30% 80s Hardrock-Metal..10% Grunge or a song from a few years back! Kids 16-21 listen to:

#1 Hip-Hop
#2 Todays Metal
#3 80s Metal/Hairbands
#4 Grunge

So what does that tell ya? You hit people with Todays HardRock and Metal. Younger kids Hate Grunge. Its tested and proven! But what gets ratings is a great Morning Drive with Great Djs & Personalitys. Also if you have a great Afternoon Drive like 102.5 has then it works well also. If you have that then music dont matter. Now what do you do inbetween with your music? Really you dont have todo anything, but if you want your station to play to the music audience. You give them (on a active rock station) Top 40 Active Rock and throw in a couple Recognizable tunes from back in the 80s hardrock scene that you dont hear anymore! Also you need great Djs Rockin out the Tunes and keeping the intrest of the listener! Also you put on some shows, contests and whatever so the listener and get INVOLVED!

That is maybe the the least correct statement in the history of this board. And that's saying something.

Based on the succes of conservative talk on FM in Pittsburgh, I would expect that either MIX or 98 Rock will soon be WFLA FM. It seems like both have been tanking ( of course I don't know how well they do in core demo's, only 12+) that change is overdue. John Tesh all the time does not seem like the sign of a successful Hot AC and putting Tex and Lerry up against Bubba seems like an act of despiration. Sort of like a 20 odd year veteran of the Senate claiming top be an "outsider".

Parttimer that is why you and alot (NOT ALL) who are in the older testing format of the music business have it all wrong and fail!

Every single 1 of those "playlists" are all singles on Billboards charts and all but 1 or 2 are in their top 40. Also the charts are from other sources like R&R other top lists! First and formost, radio is all Advertisements! You need to collect the $$$ by the consumer cause without his $$$$$ you cant generate revenue. Parttimer I suggest you know what your talking about before you type. Maybe go back to school and get your GED!

Hey Scott... this thread was about Lex & Terry and the falling ratings of 98 Rock, not your ongoing rant for New Hard Rock. Now you and I have had our discussions about this and I think we agreed to read and post in only the threads we cared about. Now keep your end of the bargain keep those comments in your "98 Rock Sux" thread.

Nice posts Parttimer... I totally agree.

Billyboy your alternative nerd rock is dying everywhere! This forum has alot of Nerds and old relics in here!

You kids follow the old style 20 min listener 'recognizable song' format. That dont work, why? Cause people dont want to hear the same music everytime they turn on the radio. Do you think 102.5 does well outside their morning and afternoon drive? Hell No! Drives are #1! Musically- Kids 14-21 want Hip-hop 1st, 2nd Todays metal, 3rd 80s Metal, 4th Grunge. As I been stating, first and foremost you need a great morning drive, if you have that, then music dont matter for ratings, but your ratings create revenue, especially in this bad economy. Radio wont exist without Advertiesements.

All you relics in the radio business are interned and stuck in a closest on what doesnt make radio work! You need to become the listener-all over again!

LOL! Dude, I love your enthusiasm, but have you ever been to the Florida State fair? That is the audience my friend. People are sheep and they DO want to hear the same music. Ask our pal Randy K. As much as it makes you insane, he makes a decent living practicing that philosophy. Enough to buy a big house and enough to be very upset right now at how much he has probably lost in the stock market recently.

I know there are people out there like you (and believe it or not, me) who want to hear different things on the radio, but it ain't gonna happen in this town. The next time you feel that rage building up in you when 102.5 is playing "Ice Cream Man" or 98 is playing Alice in Chains, go to the internet, click Google Images and search "Florida State Fair." Maybe if you do that enough, it will sink in.

I hear what your saying Rig.. and your correct. All I'm saying about 98rock is that they need to play more New Active Rock ( thats in most markets outside of Tampa). My list of songs are what you see 90% of on the Active Rock top 40 on billboard and many charts. Maybe someday a station will Flip to it.. or maybe not! At least JRR plays alot of the top 40. What gets me going is when idiots say for me to listen to sirius or lastfm, and Im like.. dudes this music is everywhere but not in Tampa. 98Rock needs to Rock again!

I just love it when people continue to harp on how "this has been "proven"", ROFLMAO.

They have an interesting plaque at the National Institue of Health in DC. "In God We Trust - All others need data."

Speaking of Data, from the numbers released Friday, data shows L&T still suck with the listeners in Tampa Bay.

Nope. I'm all cash right now. Was short Sirius/XM and covered when it dived under .75 cents. I knew any company dumb enough to allow L&T on their airwaves was a good stock to short.

In fact, if you had shorted all the companies that put L&T on, you would have purchased a big house too.

Nice Randy. I got out of XM when it was $11 and change.

L&T are going to do more to bring down what is left CC than Howard did for Sirius! Do you see a fire sale at CC in the cards?
