I just returned from Lexington, the chuckle of the visit was hearing Burl Ives' "Holly Jolly Christmas" in the middle of today's CHR on 104.5. My beef with many of the Lexington signals is the poor processing. Mix is squashed and with excessive high end, that can't be good when attracting females. I was able to hear WVLK play music as the AM was over processed while the FM was anemic. I'm not sure if it was a temporary problem but WUKY's mic processing was atrocious. On the bright side WLAP and WGVN still have good audio.
WLAP was still very strong on the Bluegrass Parkway. Their chief engineer has stated here a couple of months ago they had a lightning strike that damaged the array. I'm guessing they are still working on it.
Knowing the guy who is the CE there...
If the stations sound bad, it's because somebody in programming wants them that way. I think if you look most stations audio, you'll find that the engineer normally isn't the one making the decision on how they sound... I know that the ones here in Columbus are the same way, IF the stations sound bad, you can bet it's the operations people, rather than the technical.
I thought your comment on the AM's sounding good was telling, as the Programming types rarely give a shit about those, so those are usually left up to the Engineers...which by your observation, sound great!
I somehow doubt the pattern has changed, something is likely amiss.
