Now that the Christmas music is done for another year I see that 94.5 is still as BORING as ever and 100.1 is flat out awful!!! They could take lessons from 103.3 for sure. What kind of format is 102.5??? Its all over the place and really serves no purpose any more. The good news is that 103.9 is on with a GOOD signal that covers Lexington well. WBTF has better music and cleaner audio but signal is shady in some spots in Lexington..especially out toward Hamburg. I can frequently hear WWAG in WBTFs dropouts. Good to hear that WGVN has tweaked their format a little too. This should help their ratings plus they have a killer signal that Ive personally heard in Tennessee.

I just returned from Lexington, the chuckle of the visit was hearing Burl Ives' "Holly Jolly Christmas" in the middle of today's CHR on 104.5. My beef with many of the Lexington signals is the poor processing. Mix is squashed and with excessive high end, that can't be good when attracting females. I was able to hear WVLK play music as the AM was over processed while the FM was anemic. I'm not sure if it was a temporary problem but WUKY's mic processing was atrocious. On the bright side WLAP and WGVN still have good audio.

Rob, I don't know if you checked out WLAP on the way back west this time, but they still were putting a clean signal into western Franklin County as of a week ago (last time I checked). Don't know if this is still temporary or whether they have finally (after, what, 60 years?) decided to do something with their daytime signal other than use their nighttime pattern with more power.

WLAP was still very strong on the Bluegrass Parkway. Their chief engineer has stated here a couple of months ago they had a lightning strike that damaged the array. I'm guessing they are still working on it.

Knowing the guy who is the CE there...

If the stations sound bad, it's because somebody in programming wants them that way. I think if you look most stations audio, you'll find that the engineer normally isn't the one making the decision on how they sound... I know that the ones here in Columbus are the same way, IF the stations sound bad, you can bet it's the operations people, rather than the technical.

I thought your comment on the AM's sounding good was telling, as the Programming types rarely give a shit about those, so those are usually left up to the Engineers...which by your observation, sound great!

I somehow doubt the pattern has changed, something is likely amiss.

I actually like WWRW 105.5 but the audio isn't that great. Not as loud as the other stations and it seems like the audio is on the left channel more than right. Maybe it's just me :)

You are not hearing things. Their audio definitely stinks. 105.5 is one of Clear Channel's "orphan" stations that they are supposed to get rid of and I'm sure they are not spending any money on it. At least it sure sounds that way...

I agree about how Programming and sometimes management seem to like to make it LOUD. If the meters are hugging 100 percent like DC then that is a good thing. I figured that processing for WLAP and WGVN were left up to the technical staff.

As far as the pattern, there was an issue several months ago with a lightning strike. Since it still had a strong signal to the west it must be still under repair.

I was listening to 590 WVLK on my phone using Tune-in.
Dave Ramsey was on. The show sounded good, but when the
news break-in came on, the reader sounded muddy.
The mic processing was horrible.

I've noticed this lately, too. The news sounds terribly muddy. Rumor has it that Cumulus is not spending any money for technical upkeep at their stations. And....I don't think WVLK has hired a full-time chief engineer. Maybe someone on the inside could clarify ???

I am surprised someone hasn't tried to get 105.5.... it's 25,000 watts, decent signal.

Would you believe I heard bits and pieces of the UK/U of L game on WLAP in the parking lot of Jay C in Corydon today at 1:45 pm? The signal must really be getting into eastern Louisville .

Yes, they have.

That's one poor soul I feel sorry for if the offer is anything like what they were offering 3-4 years ago.

Morgan Grammer. He seems like a nice guy and a talented guy.

Here's what I think of Morgan.

If something needs done, he does it.

When he says "it's on the list" you can be assured it is.

As a programmer, very refreshing.
