Lexington Ratings....

Wow...I'm not sure what is so bad about 92.9 that listenership has gone downhill so much...they play good songs (in my opinion).

Mercy...100.7 The Coyote in Richmond is almost up there as high as The Bear (I still call it the bear...Heck! I still call it K-93!)

I'm surprised that a town of this size can't support two country stations...especially here in Kentucky! Wow.

This station has always been one that I looked up to as a role-model type country station. I hate to see it so far down the rating chart that I almost couldn't find it...

I think the non-localism of 92.9 (automation and satellite delivered programming) have finally done them in. WCYO still offers considerable live and local programming which is what I want as a listener.

Live and Local...it's hard to beat especially when done well.

But is 100.7 still running Lia in the evenings? I liked it better when it was completely all programmed there in Richmond.

104.5 the cat has no localism and has great ratings. That has to make clear channel happy.

That's true...I think the format also has somewhat of an impact...I love hit music...I don't really care where it is being played and who is playing it when I want to jam out...

Don't bite me...I think that is the most non-radio nerd thing I've said all year...ha!

Cumulus must be going nuts about 92.9.

The signal is a monster. It goes to show you that signal isn't everything.

Moving Hot to 92.9 would certainly make it a better competitor with 104.5 for the younger demos in the market's college towns. It also would make LM even more vulnerable, as the Beat's tower location doesn't do itself many favors (although the CP improves that). Every other station LM has is beat by a competitor in the same format.

You just pointed to the problem.

We'll be back. ;)

It's funny that I keep hearing the "name blame"; folks (including management at 92.9) keep blaming this stations lack of ratings on the station's name. They relaunched as 92.9 WLXX just prior the start of Spring book citing "listener confusion" with 98.1 The Bull. The majority of listeners report the station frequency only to Arbitron. My guess is even WBUL gets most of it's listening credits via it's frequency not it's animal name, hence the "name blame" is a lame excuse by local management.

Doesn't take a genius to figure out why WBUL is cleaning the floor with WLXX, just listen to WLXX. A question for all you current/former radio programmers our there; have you ever seen a 100,000 watt station relaunch and go backwards in the ratings?

Of course. A big signal doesn't guarantee big ratings. (Though a poor signal does guarantee bad ratings.)

If the signal covers every radio perfectly, you still have to give them a reason to listen, i.e. good programming.

For what it's worth, 92.9 relaunched in the middle of May. 6 weeks into the spring book. The relaunch will be reflected in the fall.

Cumulus left this station for dead. They're trying to revive it.

Results in the Fall on 92.9? More Spin!!! You sound like a programmer that doesn't know the Lexington market. UK Football and Basketball happen during the fall book, which will make WBUL's cume jump by 20,000 to 30,000. Add in the Christmas music on WGKS and WMXL the last five weeks of the book and WLXX has no chance.

On another note; called a friend at LM and asked them to look at the spring book, week by week and asked how WLXX looked.. It seems the week of May 16 the station fell off the face of the earth, which I'm guessing is the week they relaunched? WBUL and WLXO were both up week over week for the remainder of the spring book. Could it be that WBUL / "The Bull" was keeping WLXX / "The Bear" alive?

One thing for sure.. WLXX sounds like a small market station from 1995, everything they do reminds me of 93-96 radio, keep waiting for the obituaries to be read and swap-shop to start. :)

It really does sound like that. I think it's time for the country format to leave 92.9. Journey 94.1 in Cincinnati is good, but that station has a different name every year it seems haha.

Bring on HOT 92.9 or HOT 93 ;)

If Storm Cloud wants to keep 92.9 Country:

#1 They can go really cheap and use one of the Citadel satellite services (24 /7) they are about to buy, "total bird". Clearing national spots in Lexington is not a bad thing for the national picture. Then if somehow WBUL messes up in a ratings period (CC has messed up in Atlanta so anything is possible) they can say what a great service they have.

#2 After the bloodletting at Citadel (and Cumulus too), there might be someone left who can piece together some voice tracked talent that might work.

#3 Bite the financial bullet and staff 92.9.

I will bet anybody a free glass of water that #3 is not going to happen with Cumulus' debt!!
