Lexington Stations in NW Jackson County, IN

Why is it that i can regularly pick up both 92.1 and 98.1 from Lexington in NW Jackson County IN (car radio)? That would seem to be way way outside of the expected range. Strange terrain effects?

I guess its only 113 miles by air, thought it was further than that.

Well 98.1 is 100kw and 92.1 is 50kw I think. All of Lexingtons FMs do pretty well for the power they put out. I can hear WBTF in Somerset easily in the right spot on my JVC..they are 6kw from Midway which makes that about 80 miles for that station.

I think 92.1 is 32K... but still I hear it better than 98.1 in places. Surprise you don't hear 94.5 or 92.9 often.

Listen for WSGS 101.1 from Hazard...it won't show up as often as Lexington does but I've heard it enough times in my driveway to think that you'll hear it eventually. That's about 200 air miles.

I'm 100 miles east of LEX near the WVA border. I can hear 92.9 and 94.5 quite frequently on my car radio...sure it cuts out but it's an impressive signal. I don't normally pick up 98.1 but there is a smaller station on that frequency about 40 miles from me.

I used to hear WOKI- NOW- WNOX 100.3 Knoxville TN just south of Indianapolis,, also spots around Dayton Ohio where you could hear them durign the time WIFE Connersville went off air,, Now We have Korn Country on 100.3 in the same direction I have to aim the antenna,, so its not really possible to DX them anymore.
