Leykis calls for one last Flash Friday

The Power of Leykis--- Right after he invited listeners/drivers to participate in Flash Friday one last time, I looked outside my office window looking out on one of the main thoroughfares in Brea and noticed in the span of about 90 seconds, no less than ten vehicles (more than half of them trucks) had their lights on ... on a sunny day at 3:30 in the afternoon.

and not one person has called in reporting a flash. That tells you that the show isn't what it use to be. Back in it's heyday of the late 90's/early 2000's you would have had many callers calling in reporting they had gotten flashed.

As much as Tom is talking about he is going to his ranch and sip "vino" and enjoy the view and collect a paycheck. This has got to be a blow to his ego! Others in radio are thriving like Rush & Hannity and Tom loses his show and syndication. It has got to hurt! His shtick got old. I'll be curious to see where he lands next, but I don't think he'll ever be a dominant national radio personality. He really never had a strong national presence. He had a few markets like Seattle, Portland and Dallas, but he was never a coast-to-coast well known radio talk-show host.

I take it you've never tried calling a talk show that has some kind of an audience. And today being his last day, you call that a lame excuse? Get real will you.

I agreee about his shtick, was not my cup of tea. He was great on KFI and 710 Talk, but his new focus was uninteresting and very redundant. However again you need to re evaluate your opinion about his ego taking a blow. Its business you know and the bottom line rules!

Don't take it so personal pal! Whether I've called a radio show or not is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that his show is not what it use to be and I think if he came back as the KFI Leykis it would be an improvement. Of course it has to be a huge blow to his ego! Name me one successful talk show host that had their syndication deal taken from them like this? Not Rush, not Hannity, even Howard left on his own terms. It's just reality. The paycheck he gets of course will make it easier & he does have the $$$. The fame and respect of his peers. That's questionable.

I can name at least one and right from here in Los Angeles. Larry Elder. Larry Elder who was not only syndicated but was on XM and had at least two nationally syndicated television programs.

Larry Elder was never a MAJOR national talk-show host. Elder had some markets, as did Leykis, but I'm talking about being in the top ten of talkers in the nation. Neither Elder or Leykis were in that class.

You are the one who mentioned Leykis first.

Larry Elder had a nationally syndicated tv show, twice. Moral Court and The Larry Elder Show. The Larry Elder Show cleared in 48 of the Top 50 markets and aired for two years. It was produced at CBS on Beverly and Fairfax where they built him a radio studio. He was syndicated by ABC Radio for 5 years. He was on XM Radio for 4 years. He has hosted his own show on the Fox News Channel. He continues to work as a commentator for Fox News Channel.

You don't know what you're talking about.

No you don't know what your talking about.. have Larry Elder or Tom Leykis ever been named as one of the top ten broadcasters by Talkers magazine and other publications? NO!! Moral Court? You lose all credibility by using that as an example. You stop ten people in Midtown Manhattan or Sheboygan, WI
and I bet 8 of 10 of them don't know who Tom Leykis is! You ask those same ten people if they know who Rush, Hannity, or Howard Stern are and 9 of them will know. More people would know who Randi Rhodes and Rachel Maddow are than Tom & Larry is borderline at best. ;D You take things so personally like I told the other guy. Don't be so upset over Tommy not being on the air. All I know is that a talk station that languished in the ratings after Stern bolted is no more and in a week nobody will remember it existed, except for certain people on this board.

and........ My point was that Leykis has never achieved the kind of success that others in the broadcasting business have. He has made good $$$, but if you look at it, even there he has never come even close to making Rush, Hannity or Stern $$$. The guy has been a decent host primarily known on the west coast. He lasted two seconds on WNEW in N.Y. and it shows how much he holds a grudge against his former hometown because he failed there. For a guy that loves to kick people when they are down and boast about what he has, this must be a bitter pill to swallow. If he comes back to radio or starts a new career on TV (doubt it) then I'll be the 1st to praise him, but up until now he has never hit the pinnacle as a broadcaster.

After reading an article that is published in the L.A. Times today quoting the publisher of Talkers magazine, I don't think anything good of him. He has a bias against KLSX and doesn't have a clue about what would work on talkradio in Los Angeles.

Moral Court was in reruns for two additional years due to its high ratings in some markets.

If you ask 8 of 10 people, they won't even know who the vice-president is. So your point is?

Randi Rhodes and Rachel Maddow are nobodys. You can ask 100 people and 99 won't know either of them.

I was not a fan of KLSX nor their listener. As a radio business, I can certainly hear how the format is (not was) a winner in Los Angeles and could continue to be so for another FM market station.

;D On Monday that "nobody" Rachel Maddow will be broadcasting from the # 1 market in the country for MSNBC while Tom Leykis is planting grapes in the Santa Ynez Valley. I'd say the latter is the nobody. I'm done with this topic. I proved my point. ;D

I just gotta say one more thing and then I won't touch this topic anymore. :D So let me get this straight... Your saying the publisher of one of the leading publications in the radio broadcasting industry doesn't know what he is talking about, but some guy on a message board does? CBS should hire you tomorrow my friend. What are you waiting for? Go apply! ;D
