Leykis/KISW/The Wolf

So I've heard that Entercom has given KKWF unlimited money to do what it takes to beat KMPS, (which in my opinion is a waste, cause The Wolf has peaked) Anyway, if this is true, why doesn't Entercom take some of this money and send it over to KISW and try and get that MONO feed of the Leykis show fixed... how annoying is that??! Anyone on this board work at Entercom? Is the program director over at KISW aware that it's in MONO (I'm sure he is) Then that makes me wander why the hell a market 14 program director would allow it to continue... KQBZ had no issue getting a stereo feed of the Leykis show... Is it a money issue? or do the ratings show nobody listening, so it's just a waste of money to fix? Or KISW just doesn't plan to keep Leykis for much longer, so why bother going through all the trouble to fix the issue??

I enjoy listening to Leykis, but having to always crank the volume up and down as his show goes in and out of segments is kind of annoying.

Hey - here's an idea:

Instead of posting this on an anonymous message board, hoping someone from KISW will read it, why not just contact [*EDIT] directly?

What's that? You don't know HOW to contact him?

http://www.kisw.com/stationinfo.asp

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You'll find his e-mail address there.

[**EDIT]

And while you're at it - be sure to CC the sales manager as well. His address is at the top of the same page. Things usually happen quickly if sales thinks something is cutting into their efforts.

eh, too much work. Just askin' a simple question. Wandering if there's a reason it's still in MONO months after the change. Even if I did put in the effort to write the email, they wouldn't answer me honestly.

You know as well as I do that it's all pretty much industry professionals (both current and retired) that are on this board, so I was taking a gamble that just possibly someone might know something...

Wandering if there's a reason Keep 'wandering' wonderer. Perhaps you should compose your post in Word, use SPELL CHECK, copy, and THEN paste your thoughts to the board.

Are people that bored that they have to critique my damn spelling on this board... Come on now, it's an open annonymous board, didn't realize I had to be grammatically correct. I write a post to get some serious answers, and possibly some action on this board, and all I get are ****** bags correcting my spelling errors...

yoyo25: My post re your spelling really was a waste of space. It had nothing to do with a decent topic that you started. If I looked back at my postings, Mr. Webster would freak. Let's move on to serious or not so serious discussions of the business that deep inside we all love or loved.
Take care.

It's clear to me that KISW and Entercom don't seem to think much of the Tom Leykis show, particularly when the MONO feed and the absolutely terrible air quality continues after all these months since The Buzz left us all and the "switch" happened.

What I'd like to know is just how much longer this show will remain buried in the late and overnight hours; when will it finally be dumped and then picked up by someone else in this market, who'll have the guts to air it LIVE during the afternoon primetime....KISW can easily fill the time. Who's a good candidate for picking this show in Seattle, once the current contract w/Entercom ends?

"Who's a good candidate for picking this show in Seattle, once the current contract w/Entercom ends?"

Do you think this is why MOViN is taking its time in finding jocks hoping they could pick up Leykis? lol

In all seriousness, if you asked this a while back, I would have told you we'd see CBS flip one of its stations to Free-FM and Leykis would head over there, but the more I think about it, I don't see CBS adding anymore Free-FM stations until one actually succeeds and even if that happens, what CBS station here in town is doing that bad to actually consider a flip?

That's what I was curious about... KISW and Entercom must not be planning to keep Leykis for very long if they are allowing Leykis to broadcast this way...

How about this: 104.5FM moves from The Dalles, OR to Covington, WA... Sells the station/freq.. who purchases it? Clear Channel. Clear Channel starts an FM Talk Station. Chances? Do you think that is the whole reason for the move for 104.5? They'll get a hell of a lot more money for it up here in market 14 than they will down in Oregon...

I never raised an issue with jocks at MOVIN' , I only said that there's a LOT of noise from this panel that seems to make people nervous about what Kaye is up to and I also note that a lot of people clearly don't like the JACK or the MOVIN' trend in radio...

I think MOVIN's numbers may just surprise everyone, regardless of when they get the issues sorted out. Don't get me wrong, I don't care much for JACK and I'm holding my final opinon on MOVIN for now, but they DO have an ear for the processing there and the format is nice and tight so far...minus one or two songs.

What I thought we all could ponder for a moment is where Leykis could be a better fit other than at KISW. Obviously they don't care much about his show there.....

I contacted "Sgt. Hairclub" (Dave Richards) about this issue and this is what I received back from him:

ME: I understand that after The Buzz switched formats and all of its Jocks were moved to KISW that Tom Leykis was pushed to the side and stuck in that terrible 10-2 time-slot. I have finally been able to come to terms with that! My problem is that the MONO feed that you have of his show on KISW is terrible. I am constantly having to drastically change the volume between segments. I wish that Entercom would at least throw us loyal Leykis listeners and the man that gave your former station such great ratings a bone and at least get a good STEREO feed.

DR: The Leykis feed is stereo. Sorry for the confusion. Everything on KISW is.

ME: Then do you have any idea why it sounds so badly?

DR: Couldn't tell you. Haven't had any other complaints, and listening to it on our own systems it sounds fine. Could it be your local reception?

Has no one else complained? I find that hard to believe!

Shocking to think that they haven't had any complaints, and then to pass your comment off as "a bad receiver" is even worse.

They need to get outside the inbound programming feed monitor, and listen to the "off air" channel by listening from their own car stereo in the parking lot, once they get out from under the building at that place.....

I'm not an engineer, but I'd almost bet you that they have their stereo feed 180 degrees out of phase. That's probably why it sounds so bad and hurts so much to listen to!

Hi, I'm an Alaskan visiting Seattle this summer training for a new job, probably won't hear much from me, but hello!

I agree, Leykis sounds like crap on KISW, my two cents. I like KISW when they're playing their regular format, but I hate how they're always talking, and doing "Dude, it's the 80s". I miss KWHL in Anchorage :(

Here's an opinion from the resident stream police, One of KISW's Automation banks left channel is completely shot about 6-8db off proper volume. The studio is/was supposed to be re-built at some point but EVERYONE in radio knows that usually works out after EVERY piece of decent, usable piece of audio gear is dead. More thank likely, someone needs to patch a working the computer automation on the air, run jockless for a weekend and fix the problems.

Secondly, Leykis is a TALK SHOW, folks! Only in 2005, Westwood One finally began to carry Leykis in Stereo for it's primary/LIVE feed ONLY. Since KISW airs a 4 hours recorded LIVE on tape delay, it wouldn't surprise me at all if an operator at The Truth records the show on reel-to-reel tape, pre-produces the shows breaks, re-records the show into the automation system and calls it a day...

Simple, Costworthy and Effective...

Uh - Entercom hasn't recorded shows "on tape" for nearly ten years now. The automation systems take care of it.

Simple, (more) "Costworthy" and effective. Assuming the engineers know how to connect the satellite receiver to the sound cards.

Ok fine, they don't want to run the Leykis show in stereo, then at least run the whole four hours, production, commercials, leykis etc. in mono... I'm sick of having to crank my stereo to listen to Leykis' segments, then having to race to turn the radio down before the production hits.

I decided to shoot an email to SGT over there at KISW, and haven't heard back. It's been a good three weeks now.

Reel-to-reel tape only still exists in little OLD Idaho I guess! HA HA HA!

Sometimes when Tom is on vacation, the replays are re-produced in MONO from Westwood One or Tom's people. I've noticed this during The Tasting Room when Tom pre-tapes segment for his weekend show.

Who knows! Maybe I need to clean out my ears again?

Here's Another Idea, Cut the middleman out and listen to the show LIVE on KLSX online...Or KIFR/San Fran right after the LIVE airing...

I don't know what happened but the audio has changed coming out of KISW's Stream. It's insanely TOO HOT and almost double the normal audio.

Thanks for screwing up the stream audio KISW! It sounded fine until someone adjusted it, now it's screwed it up!!!

CAN YOU HEAR TOM ON THE AIR NOW???
