Leykis Loses Syndicator

According to Gary Lycan's radio column in the Orange County Register, controversial talk show host Tom Leykis has been dropped for national syndication by the financially-challenged Westwood One Radio Network. Tom explained (via e-mail) that the syndicator no longer wanted to pay for the engineering and editing costs of his weekday, weekend and wine-tasting shows.

There's also a report that his home station in Los Angeles (KLSX) may drop the talk format in favor of Top 40. Leykis says he's contracted through 2012 so isn't worried.

He also claims to be #1 in men 25-54 .. in fact the top-rated show in the LA market for adults 25-54.

Most Pacific Northwesterners will remember the Leykis heigh-day a few years back when he was the sensation of PM drive-time radio not only in LA, but also Seattle, Vancouver and Portland.
 
Leykis is on in the Seattle area at 10pm on KISW Monday-Thursday. Uh....that would be 99.9 Mhz on your FM dial.

Well with Westwood dropping him, we'll see how long this lasts. I remember back when Tom was on The Buzz--and when they dropped him, that's about when his show started going downhill. KISW even broadcast him out of phase for the longest time and it sounded like *crap*.
 
his contract is iron clad. I've seen it. He'll get paid, trust me.
on the beach, and paid over three million annually to sit.
 
If you haven't listened lately, I caught him in LA last week and his voice has been getting worse and worse...to the point where it's painful to listen to him. The cigars? Too many hookers? Bad scotch? And at the end of the day, how many times can anyone get a kick out how he treated people, women in particular?

$3M a year is small consolation to be a misogynistic swine. He was not a credit to radio...though I wondered how he could have such a following in Seattle. On the other hand, he did get mugged here...so go figure...
 
he actually had black mold in his home a few years back which destroyed his voice... its actually better now that it has been in a while.

Leykis will be fine,,, surely another syndicator will pick him up.

For years he has been railing against the shoddy engineering and bad management at WW1

The black mold you refer to is black mold that was found on his bong. The daily use of his laced filled bong finally got to his vocal cords according to his ear, nose and throat doctor.

He does NOT have an iron clad contract. There is a clause in there stating if he is ever caught wacking off and reading the bible with a bottle of merlot at Shotgun Tom's house his contract would be automatically void.

Laced with WHAT? I don't know of any pot resin by itself that can cause THAT kind of voice deterioration he's had......
 
A great Radio guy... not such a healthy man. Not sure even he has come to grips with what has caused his vocal chords to change, but like Rush Limbaugh, I hope he gets it back.

He ran a clinic for all on reinventing yourself, branding and storytelling for years. I wish he was still on the air every afternoon in Seattle tweaking the PC crowd.
