Leykis

His just desserts.

I recall Tom taking some swipes at other talk shows, most of whom were superior to his.

I didn't listen much to Leykis, but once tuned in and heard him call Ken Hamblin's great show "a little show." Hamblin - the Black Avenger - was one of the greatest hosts of all time and may have had more affiliates than Leykis' puny list.

He took several swipes at Phil Hendrie. Sometimes he'd throw away his show talking about the ratings.
This Leykis is so anal.
I heard a small part (thankfully) of a "best of" show the other weekend.

Some caller opened his comment by saying, "As I told your call screener...."

That sent Leykis into some lunatic fringe orbit. He went after this caller and like nagged him to death. Leykis had the nerve to say how guests on Leno or Letterman are prepped by the show's producers and told only to say what their news is, etc., and that the guests don't waste the host's valuable time by saying to the listener (or viewers) what they told the producers. ( Like Leykis would ever be a guest on those shows ).

The caller tried to interrupt and make his point, but all Leykis wanted to do was reprimand the caller.

I mean Leykis was anal.

Tom is, what Tom is.
he's unorthadox personally, but can do very solid radio. The problem right now, the PPM'S really hurt guys with small Cume's.
Tom built his career on smaller, loyal audiences, and PPM's are proving that those audiences weren't as loyal as they reported in the arbitron's.
Leykis took a huge hit in PPM's. His voice is mostly shot, and his best days are behind him, but he signed a 4 year 15 million dollar deal---so he'll be able to eat.

It was a 5-year deal. I thought a little more than $3MM a year, but no one's complaining at either level.

Looks like he'll be the one talking into a garden hose in the not too distant future.

If Leykis washes out, it would be a shame because he is one of the precious few "talk hosts" around who has something to offer other than the usual conserva-clone fare... 8)

...and, as a result, Leykis' podcasts will have a certain level of topical relevancy long after a Limbaugh or Savage aircheck becomes a case of "Palin Who?"...
