BLI was never a true CHR. There was alot they wouldn't touch because they were very family oriented. Even though the term did not exist, they were more of a Hot AC with oldies at lunch and on the weekends (Sun night).

Even though I didn't listen to WBLI regularly in the 1980s, I've done some research on that station's early-1980s playlists via Billboard's "Singles Radio Action" section; so I can vouch for the above statement. In the early-1980s, when Bill Terry first began his long run as program director, 'BLI passed over a lot of major hits, especially in 1981 and early 1982. (i.e. "The Stroke" by Billy Squier, "Fire and Ice" by Pat Benatar, "I Love Rock N Roll" by Joan Jett, etc.) In fact, "I Love Rock N Roll" didn't finally get played on 'BLI until it got on one of those year-end "All-Time, All-Request" Top 300s in 1985!

Did Long Island even have anything resembling a Mainstream CHR/Top 40 in the early 1980s? Also, does anyone know if WBLI was covered in "Radio & Records" (R&R) in the mid-to-late-1970s?<P ID="signature">______________

Many tell me HB-107 was pretty full-blown CHR in the late 1980's. As for R&R, I don't know how.

A former BLI staffer tells me that for a little while in 1988-early 1989, some dayparts where full blown CHR (7-mid M-F etc), but that others kept an AC flair.

In the late 80's they passed over alot of records at times, like M/A/A/R/S "Pump Up The Volume" and other Urban CHR hits that got spins on Z-100.

WCTO FM in Smithtown 94.3 became a Schulke SRP-programmed Beautiful Music station in 1970. It was owned by Greater Media who later (late 70s) came out with their own Beautiful Music format. I want to know when Greater Media's format (which was basically that of WGAY FM in Silver Spring MD) replaced that of SRP on WCTO. Would have been between late 70s and 1984 when SRP was sold and went out of business.
