Lib Radio Back, @ 1480

Interesting that Randi Rhodes is in the line up. Thought someone on here said she was with Chump Channel. Also, apparently no truth to the rumor that a certain Mr. Jacobs was groveling at the door of Dr. Mike looking for a job. ::)

Basically, if you went back in time 20 years or so and offered $$ to Rush to be a liberal host and $$ to Stephanie to be a conservative host, they would both take it and do the schtick.

Talk radio is pro wrestling...fake, but shiny.

So true, Legend City. If Rush thought he could make more money doing liberal talk, he would dump the Club Gitmo t-shirts in a heartbeat and give Nancie Pelosi a big, sloppy, wet kiss on the lips!

There's more $$ in seeing Randi Rhoads lip-locked with Sarah Palin ;)

But back to topic: can KPHX make money with Progressive talk? And in the latest reincarnation, is owner Jose Molina behind the new format or is this just another LMA for 14~Eighty?

If you want my $0.02, I think the majority of people/businesses who have already donated money to bring Progressive talk back to Phoenix are probably tapped out and/or unwilling to advertise or give money to fund the operations at 14~Eighty. If the advertising on their web site is any indication as to the quality of advertisers on the station (I live in the east valley and don't get 14~Eighty on my radio), they are in big trouble already.

My guess is within 3-6 months we'll start hearing requests for donations and other money-making schemes on 14~Eighty.

Let's just say I would not want to be a sales person at 14~Eighty and I doubt my mentor in radio sales, Jason Jennings, would want to be either!!! ;)

Perhaps Obama can send them some stimulus $$$ ?? ::)

All I know is their signal really sucks. Last time I was in Phoenix, it was noisy as hell in the rental car radio about the time I got into Mesa.

It's as bad as 1150 in Seattle, it's not the kind of signal you should put somebody like Randi Rhodes on....

Bongwater it's like this.. when AM was like doing really bad in ratings a couple of decades ago along came Rush. Then other conservative talk started going on the air but they had no competition and the high powered AM's needed programming to pay the bills and to make a profit. Most of the Progressive (which has not really had any impact or much of any here comes along 20 years later)talk is on daytimers or stations that just do not cover the market as well or do ok in the day but when the sun goes down they cut power or go directional and do not cover the market they are serving very well. I hear from "conservatives" all the time that there's lots of liberal secular programming on.. In Phoenix let's be honest now.. On the AM Dial Jeff Farias on KXXT 1010 at 11:30 to 12:30 monday thru friday.. then there's NPR on KJZZ during the day and just now the third attempt to start progressive talk here in Phoenix. Although the internet is becomming more of a force everyday in getting info out to the masses, that's another discussion.. only one side and one way does not get the whole picture out there. It takes us to speak up and ask for different programming, nicely but remember right now everything is keyed on how much money can be made doing this.. Things are that tight in radio now.. :-X

It's really like this: there are only two AMs in the market with strong signals day and night. One is conservative talk, the other a sports parkinglot. Both have good ratings and revenue. Because progressive talk has never had good ratings in Phoenix, don't look for the format to move to a better facility until it does. 8~Sixty, 9~Ten, 9~Sixty would be an improvement over 14~Eighty, but they all have limited signals at night. Plus three's something about Ancient Modulation and Progressive that just doesn't sound right to the Nurse and me! Randi Rhoads is talented...so is Stephanie Miller and Big Ed Shultz, but until they start pulling decent ratings in Phoenix, they'll be doin' their talkin' on 14~Eighty.
