Liberal Talker Closes After Eight Years, Moves Content to the Internet

I don't understand what this N/Ter is doing. They are selling the station to a ministry that will be running a Spanish language Christian format and moving their liberal talk programming to the internet. Are they are still going to pay for market clearance for Hartman, Press, Rhodes, Schultz etc for an internet station? I am including two links, one for the story of the move and the other for the station schedule.

I'm pretty sure those shows are just barter anyway. Not sure how that'll work online, though. Of course they may just run them whether they're supposed to or not.

They probably figure they won't ever get any more for the station that they can now.

The programming probably wasn't bringing in the dollars either. At least they're providing a method where it can still be obtained.

My Guess is unless another station in the market comes in and clears those shows over the air. they will be on the internet station. but once a station comes in and says they will OTA Clear them. then once that happens the internet station will lose clearance

I don't see the whole slate, or even most of the programs, being picked up by another outlet. Perhaps one or two shows. It's nice that they've kept their slate in one place to make it easier for their audience, but the programs are likely already available online albeit, perhaps not at the time the audience was accustomed to hearing it.

The viability of the internet operation will depend on the ability to get any ad revenue. Time will tell, but this format doesn't seem to be pulling in the money.

How would you go about selling a stream only product after the product was previously on real radio? This is going to be one of those deals where the owners want to keep the programming on because they likely agree with the political bent, so they're willing to make it a loss leader subsidized by the programming that makes money.

If they don't mind doing it, and can afford it on what the new format on the real radio station brings, good for them. They get to keep the shows they like, and serve some kind of an audience.
