Licks 96.7

Former WGOV FM Valdosta is now WLYX,Licks 96.7,hip hop and r and b.The AM is still Magic 95,urban contemporary.

What a peculiar nickname for a radio station. "Lynx" 96.7 would have been a better moniker for this station. After all, this is Valdosta, home of the Wildcats. Not only that, "lynx" is the Latin term for "wildcat", i.e., if that's the correct term.

I don't know.I named the FM in Bainbridge Cat Country for the Bainbridge Bearcats. The owner was a country music fanatic.I advised him that AC was a better fit.Bainbridge's ethnic makeup and average age can't support a country station. It's been tried twice. The name and the format didn't take off as well as anticipated.

I actually heard this one on Saturday (I live in the Clearwater/St. Petersburg, FL area) while runing errands and scanning for pirates. Which is what I thought this was (possibly from the Tampa side of the bay, due to very poor signals, and I never caught any spots).

I checked the FCC calls dB upon returning home and also found a Radio & Records 8/10/2006 post about the flip and new calls. Surprised to hear it down here under seemingly non-tropo conditions, much less only four days after the new calls went into use.

96.7 in Valdosta has had a CP to go 50kw for more than 15 years now. Mike tried his best but he never could get things to fall into place. He acutally had it up to 50kw for a few months after buying and old CCA transmitter from the old 98.9 The Breeze in Tallahassee. It was a transmitter I had to completely rebuild a couple of times in the 90s and I know those that followed me had to rebuild it a few times after that, so it wasn't the best thing Mike could have bought.

Now that Gram Corp has it, I am sure they have been able to get a good transmitter and get everything set up a little better. They should really put out a pretty good signal. The closest 1st adjacent is my 96.5 in Savannah. I am not sure what is south of there anymore.

What does this mean for Star 105.3 WSTI? they are a "Dual Format" Radio Station. Part of the Day they are Urban and another Part they are Urban AC. Do they Go Full Urban and Try to Direct Compete. or do they now Fully seuge to Urban AC? From what I seen Urban ACs have been doing alot better than Urban stations all over the country. I live in Savannah. An Urban AC has overtaken the Urban Station for the #1 spot here. the Urban was #1 for years too. I used to live in the New York City Area. Anyone that is in to Hip Hop has heard about HOT97 they are the Flagship station for Hip Hop. There is also the New Kid Power 105.1 Both are Excellent Hip hop Urban Stations, BUT the Urban ACs in the area WBLS ans 98.7 Kiss fm had Better Ratings than both the Urban's (well Until Yesterday Kiss is still on top of the Urbans) I think Urban AC 24/7 is the best move for WSTI.

Correct me if Im wrong, but wasn't WGOV and WSTI both Urban AC while the CHR station was the only choice for top 40 hip-hop???

I've listened to STAR 105.3 online and I love DJ HUTCH DADDY DOLLAZ mixshows. Im not to sure if I like the mix of Classic Soul with Hip-Hop on 105.3 though???
