Life after Ellen Degeneres leaves Daytime TV

Tiffany Haddish is named as a candidate to take over daytime TV but theres also speculation of Local News in some areas taking over that spot or Kelly Clarkson getting more attention as a daytime host. Miley Cyrus and Meghan Trainor is named as candidates too. In my view local news is the most likely candidate to take over syndicated Daytime TV and yes its due to demos reasons and a shift to tv on apps that could kill off syndicated TV.
Others say NBC, which has carried Ellen in major markets, might try to secure the slot for The Kelly Clarkson Show, though its tepid ratings of late could make that a tough sell. The company has inked deals with Meghan Trainor and Miley Cyrus, too, and could consider either for a daytime role. Cyrus showcased her skills earlier in the pandemic with a popular Instagram Live talk show, Bright Minded: Live with Miley. “This may not be how Ellen does it,” she said during show one, “but it’s how I do it.” Still, the risk, say syndication execs, is that Cyrus is too edgy for advertisers and too young for viewers.

“Remember,” says one, “there’s no one young watching.”

I imagine it'll be like when Oprah left daytime TV.

Cannon maybe replace it on KMBC or even Williams because be shopped at Fox4kc with Judge Judy repeats replacing it and Jeopardy moving to 4pm instead of adding a Newscast.

If Tiffany or someone else doesn't take that studio space at WB, many affiliates will indeed head towards mid-afternoon newscasts. KING 5 News at 3 is not a wild prediction, at least in Seattle. KNDO meanwhile, will likely (come September 2022) fill that 4PM spot with anything and everything that isn't news...even if it's Byron Allen court shows. 4PM news doesn't exist here. We don't even have noon news in Yakima!

Yes Nick Cannon was in talks to have a syndicated tv talk show in the past year but at the time of the proposed TV Talk show deal there was the issue over his rants in the past year that got him suspended from his radio shows and COVID-19 shutdown order.

Note Power 106 in Los Angeles and his national radio syndicator got the suspension lifted since then. For now I'm not so sure who the candidates for syndicated shows will be after Ellen leaves.

Someone “taking over a studio” does not mean they take the clearances. New show, new deals.
And framing it as a single “successor” is no more accurate now than it was when Oprah moved on.

As we've been discussing in another too-long thread, there will be no "Next Ellen". There will be other shows that stations will add in her former time slot.

True in this case its not a single show and network taking over Ellen's syndicated spot. Its multiple parties from station owners and multiple production companies making their own decisions over who becomes the "biggest talent" on syndicated television and those decisions will vary.

Ultimately the viewers decide who is the biggest, with an assist from the ways schedules shake out. But the whole “who’s the next (blank)” thing is a bit played out here in 2021.

It also seems there may be more interest in group discussion-type shows than traditional daytime talk shows with 1 host. Rather than Donahue, Oprah, Maury, Montel and Ellen, now there's a big fan base for shows like The View, The Talk and formerly The Chew.

Hopefully no more trash talk. Although I don't watch them regularly I can tolerate the shows like Ellen, Kelly and Ryan, etc rather than garbage like Springer and Maury.

Generally, those have not been prevalent in syndication. Some exceptions, but more rare.

The Real is an example of the multiple-host (more than two people) syndicated talk program. Others have failed in the past - remember The Other Half with Dick Clark and a bunch of others? A season went by and it was pink-slipped.

There was also some Disney effort a few years back…Fab Life or some such thing? A one and done series.

With few exceptions, syndication is better serviced with single, usually recognizable, names as the hook for talk shows. Maybe two in the case of Live.

I feel like WYFF could swap Days Of Our Lives and The Kelly Clarkson Show, though its tepid ratings of the latter could make that a tough sell. Putting Days at 3pm might work.

As much as she had a rocky relationship with her producers, I will miss some of her skits. Jeannie surprising teachers was so much fun. Andy and the haunted house was always amazing. Even getting her audience to play What's in the Box?

I could see Wood TV putting news on at 4PM in fall of 2022 replacing Ellen. I wonder if WZZM will air 4PM News or put repeats of Judge Judy as is. Although kinda surprised that Nexstar hasn't put a 4PM News on sister station WOTV.
