Does a liberal talk show host have a shot at going to congress from Minnesota?
Former KTNF, Minneapolis (locally-owned station branded as "AM 950 Air America Minnesota") morning show host Wendy Wilde has received the nomination of the Democratic Farmer-Labor Party to the House of Representatives from Minnesotas 3rd district. Wilde resigned from the Minneapolis lib-talker following a 27 year radio career. Stephanie Miller syndicated broadcast took over the time slot on the station.
Air America Radio network host Al Franken, whose program followed Wilde's, has moved to Minnesota and is reportedly considering a run for the DFL nomination for the U.S. Senate from Minnesota in the 2008 election (a move which would force him to give up his radio show once he announces his candidacy). Another well-known lib-talker, Mike Newcomb, morning host in Phoenix on KPHX ("Air America Phoenix), ran unsuccessfully as a primary candidate in 2002 for the Democratic nomination for Governor of Arizona.
