Lifetime: new home of "America's Most Wanted"

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/44416128/ns/today-entertainment/

No specifics were given as to exactly when Lifetime would start airing AMW eps, other than "later this year." While the show has been off of Fox and before the Lifetime announcement Tuesday, 4 wanted men have been caught. Meanwhile, John Walsh will receive the Governor's Award on Saturday from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences during the Creative Arts Emmy Award ceremony.

I remember when Barry Diller got John Walsh to do America's Most Wanted on Fox. I remember when John Walsh got criticized the same way that Nancy Grace was criticized back in the 1990's for being too obsessed on certain cases. When Barry Diller ran it there was uncertainty if Fox would last or not.

I guess success or failure will depend on just how much Lifetime wants to spend on this and what
resources will be available. I was not real impressed with their efforts on Unsolved Mysteries.
A lot of recycled material from the 90's where they just dubbed Dennis Farina's voice over
Robert Stack.

...and yet they completely revamped (and butchered) the theme song, which IMHO was the best part of the original Unsolved Mysteries.

BTW, this version started on Spike - was Lifetime simply airing reruns of the Spike airings, or did they air additional new episodes?

Lifetime did a great job with the repeats of the original (NBC) Unsolved Mysteries during the 90's (and early 2000's?) -- I recall several of the NBC episodes receiving an "UPDATE" with mention of Lifetime viewers calling in with tips that led to cases being solved.

I am surprised that "America's Most Wanted" didn't go to Tru-TV

AMW on Lifetime, eh? Hmm.....Should be interesting. I would think Biography would be a better place for that show than Lifetime would

I was figuring TruTV would become the new home but then too, with all the Repo shows they have on, they should rebrand that channel to Repo TV instead

And while they're at it, take all the cop shows that TruTV has & move them over to The New Court TV (Which would be former HLN) & put AMW on there

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 :D

Then "The New Court TV" can air "Matlock" and "Night Court" reruns. ::)

Naah. Leave that on Hallmark Channel

When I say cop & legal actuality shows, I mean the ones you currently see on TruTV. Not the Hollywood produced ones like Matlock, Law & Order & CSI. We don't need more outlets for them (Especially with the latter two)

Think of it this way - Trials during the daytime (Monday thru Friday) & cop & legal actuality shows at all other times

No reason to think such a format wouldn't work IMO.....

Cheers & 73 :)

I'm Surprised the AMW didn't move to HLN since its the best spot to have this show.

A more logical choice would be Fox News Channel, as Fox owns the program.

Fox News is too busy doing Tea Party infomercials thats why AMW moved to Lifetime. I thought AMW should be on Spike since AMW attracts more Men. "Lifetime come on Television for straight men" ;D like I said on the Pickers Sisters thread.

I think with a minor tweak in America's Most Wanted, and a minor tweak in Lifetime's slogan will fix that.

"Lifetime: All Men Are Evil and WILL Hurt You and Everyone Else"

Problem solved!

I thought the straight men used to watch Lifetime back in the '90s for Supermarket Sweep (before it moved to ION)!

OK good point but the reason Lifetime chose to air AMW, reruns of Pawn Stars on History and Picker Sisters (American Pickers Rip-off) is clear. They have to change their marketing to straight men because they feel that the Oprah Network, Wetv and Oxygen would beat Lifetime in the Women market.

I just checked www.amw.com and America's most wanted has a special on FOX Oct 29th.Is Lifetime going to let him do specials on FOX?Btw, "Lifetime" is an odd place for AMW.Surprised to hear that but then again Conan on TBS was just as odd.A show like AMW can be more than likely written off as a "Public Service" Program. That's why I believe FOX kept it as long as it did. They clearly werent going going to make money off of it.
Glad to see it's getting a new life though.

Boy, oh boy, watch the Lifetime promotions department run wild! They've got Heidi Klum (Project Runway); they've got Jennifer Love Hewitt (The Client List will be made into a series); and now, they've got John Walsh (AMW)!

And those three have something in common: They were all on "People" magazine's "Most Beautiful People" lists in various years.
