Lights out @ Shine 96.7

It's only been 5 years of failure. Thank God. I had absolutely given up on this thing ever going away.

Classic Hits? Urban? I don't know what else there is room for. They have USC sports so that might have impact on what format they would program.

They have a farewell message on their website: http://www.shine967.com

Guess I haven't been following Shine that much. Didn't know Lizz Ryals was involved (assuming their prior PD).

Actually, I think a CHR would be a good thing. B93.7 is very vunerable IMO and with 102.5 and X98.5, I seem to hear less and less pop-rock on it (although I admittedly don't listen to it much ... except when my kids are in the car forcing me to change to it), and back to a more rhytmnic lean. A good CHR along the lines of something like 96.1 in Charlotte could throw up a decent fight with WFBC.

It would be nice if Greenville got a real Urban station. www.967thebeat.com , www.power967.com is owned by CC, but was registered way back in 2000 and updated in July this year. A Premium Choice (low budget voicetracked) ran Urban in Greenville could shake things at Cox 107.3 and 98.1. Just food for thought!!

I'm hoping they move ESPN from 1440 to 96.7.
I had thought of that, but would that really be something you'd stunt over? Seems more like they could flip a switch. The liners say they're "building a new radio station", but that could be reading too much in to it. Lots of missed opportunities here....could have gone Adult Hits (like they have been doing in other markets lately) or Alternative before Cox grabbed those formats. Just said "this could be bad news for The Planet, if all of the new rock songs you play are from 20 years ago." Ha.

Lizz Ryals ran Shine, but that's not very much to do. It was satellite-fed. It just needed somebody to babysit it.

Clear Channel has been putting a lot of CHR's on the air lately, but it would be a pretty tough battle given that 96.7 is signal-challenged going up against the blowtorch at 93.7. Could compliment 102.5, though. Who knows. This station has some fantastic processing, BTW.

Heck, I always thought Urban Gospel would have been a better option than what they did. Would have probably eaten a little off of Jamz.

The changes in this market in the last year are crazy. 102.5 last July, 97.7 in December, 98.5 in August, the 94.5 sale announced last month, now 96.7 Wow.

That's hilarious and so true.

Sorry to veer off-topic, but since this was mentioned I felt the need to share. I flipped to 93.3 earlier today and heard one of their new promos clearly aimed at X98.5 -- and I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like that The Planet plays rock "without all the other crap". Funny, I feel the opposite. The Planet is the one playing all the "crap".

Just started streaming 96.7 via I Heart Radio and they're playing Local H and now NIN's "Closer". Yikes, they're going to give someone a heart attack if one of Shine's Christian music followers tunes in.

So is this the flip? Another rock and/or alternative station? Or are they just sending something else over the webfeed? Or, of course, the always possible joke before the real flip?

"Urban listeners have had one choice for way too long. Steve Harvey's one funny guy" (paraphrasing).

I don't know. This doesn't serve much purpose if they're not going to tell when to tune in for the new format, does it?

LOL, i just heard that liner too and they even mentioned 107.3 Jamz! Very, very true, but is this the actual new format? They could air Steve Harvey and play Hip-Hop and R&B. Hmmmmmm, maybe it's Urban afterall.

Oh Dear God, thank you Jesus for this flip........ long overdue!

Now, please oh please send us a Top 40 station cause' B just ain't nothing anymore, up the power on this 96.7 signal and kick it up a notch with some top 40 like Power 96.1 in ATL just launched!

This isn't the true format yet. Listen at 4pm, it'll be something different I'm sure

This flip was incredibly overdue. This thing was a turkey. Format was DOA. Clear missed a lot of opportunity over the years, IMO.

Whatever the format is, it will have to mesh at least decently with USC, I'd think.

Did anyone else hear the sound quality change during Katy Perry-Wide Awake?? The bass increased a lot and the volume lowered a bit... Just saying I've always noticed during stunts that when you hear the engineers tinkering on the sound qualities, listen for the type of music they are tinkering on, in this case Top 40, so hopefully that indicates a flip to Top 40, still praying here!

I heard Wide Awake, but didn't listen to the whole song. They're playing Demi Lovato presently and it doesn't sound as bright as it did earlier. Sounds a little deeper, as you say. The bass is booming.

In other words, I don't think it sounds as good as it did earlier, but it depends on the kind of music - when they were playing rock and variety hits, the processing sounded fantastic.

I wonder if the new format will be on at 5pm?
