Like A Phil Spector Record

One only has to listen to the new top of the hour News Opener on KFWhyEYE to understand why KT'R-FM is still screwed up. 5~Fifty knows who they are and what their listeners want. They consistently deliver on the promise. KT'R can't make up it's mind whether it's a talk station, a news station, or a sports station. PMD talker Mac Watson's hands are tied because Detour Dan has to do Traffic on the Nines because research sez frequent traffic is important. Somehow common sense was left out of the equation. The morning news block is so overproduced it sounds like a Phil Spector record - best heard on AM 40 years ago! And wassup with all the sports reports and coverage when TMISU told us a year ago that 92~Three was for News and Talk, and 6~Twenty would be the Sports Parking Lot? What a disjointed mess. If the Master Blogger was a stock, Nurse Jeff and I would short it.

I see one difference between Phil Spector and KTAR.

KTAR consistently beats KFYI in morning drive. Phil hasn't been at the top of the charts anytime lately. ;)

'fraid not chief, Morning Snewz and Aunt Carlos loses more consistently in more demos than not to KFYI.

I suggest you go back to making up rumors about people yelling in the halls of stations you'll never work at.

Here we go again. It's another exciting yelling match between KMGX and headphonejack over ratings numbers. Please spare me. Those who have the numbers know the truth.

Now, back to the point here. I totally disagree with you doctor. I think KTAR is finally starting to show what they are. Finally, they've gotten the sports off KTAR, they've gotten rid of the senior citizen talk show hosts, and they've gotten a talk lineup that is much better.

In our opinion KT'R's credibility is fast becoming non-existent. They tweaked 6~Twenty as much as they could and decided the answer was FM. $75m later it's News 92~Three. That didn't work so now it's FM 92~Three. Anyone with any grey matter knew McBland would be a cultural trainwreck on FM, but it took a year for TMISU to admit it. The Master Blogger disses syndicated talkers, but picks up Beck and Hendrie. And then there's the assinine 7 to 10, 7 to 10, 7 to 10 show. What a joke indeed! Meanwhile the Master Blogger continues to spin out of control while assuring everyone that KT'R-FM is now headed in the right director. Been there, done that. The Nurse and I don't buy it!

KFYI's new audio technology is as groundbreaking as Phil Spector's Wall of Sound - Hi-Def!

As crisp and clear as the Ronnettes in AM Stereo, on my Bose Wave Radio !

:) ;) :D ;D :mad: :( :eek: 8) ??? ::) :p :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'(

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

I was listening to the Cards game on Sunday and I'm quite sure I was listening to 92.3, not 620.

Officially, both stations are considered flagships by the team, but if there's a conflict with the Suns or D'backs, the games are carried on FM only.

KTAR-FM sounds well produced, passionate, great news/info/and sounds like a station in Phoenix.....finally, with talk hosts that are emotional and in the demo....they have the triple threat combo. Best news/best talk/best signal.

KTAR is doing good things, they sound much better without McBland and Ded Simons, I'm not a big Ankarlo or Beck fan, but, I have other choices. Mac sounds pretty good, and Hendrie is a radio God.

But...7 to 10 <expletive deleted> ;D

Even though it took too long, they are headed in the right direction.

I for one welcome our KTAR overlords

Yet, it's STILL better than KT'R, which is as lame as ever.

But never as lame as you. Looks like you need to wack your patti a little more. :-*

And that was lamer still. With cheerleaders like you, no wonder KT'R gets worse the harder they try.

Let's not get carried away here.

I finally had a chance to listen to Mac Watson yesterday, and I must say that I was partly impressed and partly disappointed. On one hand, his voice and delivery sound almost precisely like Tom Leykis circa 1987, which--by the way--is a good thing, back when Tom was a magnanimous host capable of carrying an audience without talking about his sex-life. For an out of market host, he was learning the ropes quickly and wasn't some wishy-washy host who would take crap from callers--also good.

On the down side, he fits in the mold of typical KTAR host (and 1980 style talk) where the hours are segmented into question-answer sessions, "this hour we're talking about topic x, this hour topic y". I know that at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting they teach you that this is a good model for a talk show, but it's not. Moreover, the show's constant interruptions by traffic that no one needs/cares about and weather that we can all see by looking out our windows is a huge distraction. There's nothing worse than cutting a caller off during a good discussion simply because you have a "hard break" that is unnecessary.

Just a note: The 202 is always backed up, I-10 westbound has significant delays, so does the Eastbound I-10 from 44th street all the way back to 75th avenue... EVERY DAY.

Weather: "Clear Tonight lows in the mid 70s, mostly sunny tomorrow with a high near 93" cut and paste, it's not necessary every ten minutes. (is it raining where you are?)

On the whole, however, Mac Watson is a HUGE improvement over anything that KTAR has mustered up to this point. Glenn Beck--even six hours in the can--is still better than a newsblock or McBland. Now, just hand out pink slips to Aunt Carlos, dos_gay and the morning snewz and you're headed in the right direction for sure.

yes!

i wish more host's would free associate like savage & drudge do.

if you set-up a topic for the hour and the listener decides they're not interested that topic; you've lost 'em for awhile.

but if you don't know what topic the next caller will bring-up and which direction the show will go, you'll keep the listener's attention.

Yup, KMGX gets it! The Master Blogger reads too much into research as there's NO NEED for weather and traffic on the 9's in PMD if you're NOT an all snooze station! Your junior programmer wings await at the Buckeye Media Hut!
