Lil Wayne "A Milli"

Can someone explain to this 51 year old white guy about this song. I just don't "get" it. 116 spins on Power 106, top spins at Power 96 and at KMEL. The lyrics seem weak, Lil' Wayne sounds like he's half asleep or drunk and there's really no hook to speak of except the guy repeating "A Milli" throughout the entire song. So anyway, what am I missing here?

I'm a 14 year old Hispanic from Hayward, CA and KMEL plays it all the time and it's alright and I hear it on MTV2's Sucker Free and alot of my friends like that song.

listen to it in your car, turn the bass up, and pretend you're 25-30 years younger. You'll understand why it's doing as well as it is then. I hate the song, and I'm only 25...but by the same token, it's a big party song and it hits hard.

Who cares if he's #1 or #111? He still is overrated, and garbage. Listen to some real hip hop like Immortal Technique that's on an independent label and tell me again if I don't know hip hop. Sheesh

Oh, don't worry I don't! :)

Me neither

I'm so glad I became a school teacher. I need to teach these 14 year olds to learn how to spell. Too bad these rappers ruin the English language. Most of these rappers are not even from the streets, but from the suburbs, like that movie CB4. To me, hip hop is Doug E. Fresh, EPMD, Kurtis Blow, RUN DMC, Arrested Development, Mos Def, and The Roots. This Lil Wayne is just mainstream club crap that will be long forgotten a few years now. Does anyone remember those "hot" rap songs from 2001 besides Eminem? All that bass is going to kill your speakers by the way.

Also, check out the new single by Lil' Shayne called "A Vinilli."

People are go insane about anything even remotely Lil Wayne in my market. I eventually had to start playing "A Milli" at night but would always complain and say how much I thought it sucked after words. This ALWAYS brought in the priceless calls telling me "you don't know sh**, he sold a gazillion CD's", "stop hatin, he's saving hip hop" and other fun ridiculous statements. I always say he suckered people into buying it and that people will do whatever looks cool to their friends.

One night I decided to change it up and compliment him on the air. The same calls came in... people telling me to stop hatin but I wasn't hatin, I was complementin'. I realized people hear the words "Lil Wayne" and are just programmed to say he's great and defend him.

So last night, I said that due to Lil Wayne tremendous CD sales, he was in line in replace Jesus Christ himself. Lil Wayne is the new lord. First call says the obvious "Umm, Lil Wayne is good but not GOD, Lil Wayne cannot replace J.C.". What followed was radio gold of Lil Wayne fans calling and saying how Lil Wayne can replace anyone in hop hop and who was this "NEW LORD" guy that they should rap battle. Another caller was like "get your boy to spit a verse on da air if he so good". I'm telling the kid I can't because my guy is GOD. Kid says "whateva, you guy is a bitch den, Lil Wayne sold mad CD's". I said, my boy sold MAD books (bibles of course). Still not getting it, the kid says Lil Wayne works with Jay-Z, Julez Santana, etc etc. I say "my guy MADE them". It went on and on.

Point is: They hear "LIL WAYNE" and hear nothing else. They just defend him cause it's somethin to do and cause it's what their friends are doin. Ask actual educated people who bought the Wayne CD, they will tell you that they were extremely disappointed.
