Limited Listening to South Florida Radio

I had a chance this week to do some listening to South Florida radio and I liked what I heard. It was all in the car and I found myself mostly listening to Coast, Easy, Lite and Majic. All of the stations sounded good. Coast drove me away a few times with something that obviously was made for the younger listener. I guess hip hop or something like it has found it's way on to the A/C playlist. Not my thing! Easy was good but I wanted to hear some local jocks. The people on Lite and Majic all did a fine job. The music was a nice mix on both stations and I assume they share listeners.

The music on Lite was a bit jarring to me but that's probably because I remember the days of their even softer A/C when Manilow, Diamond and Streisand were the rule, even before that when WLYF was Beautiful Music. To me the more contemporary sounds seemed out of place on 101.5.

I heard Ron St. John I worked with him many years ago at WGBS and remember him from WQAM before that! Ron must be close to gold watch time.

On the am band 1400 WFLL came though well at night where it used to be very week b ut back when I was there it was only 250 watts at night the 1kw really helps at night

I came away with the feeling that there are some good radio choices for those of us who are 50+ on the South Florida radio dial.

I certainly haven't heard all the local jocks, but Ron St. John is my favorite of the ones
I know. He does a terrific job IMO.

Yes it was nice to hear him on the radio. He sounds the same even after many years. Ron always had a friendly up delivery on the air. At one time there were a lot of ex-WGBS jocks on Majic.
