Limiting

Our limiter went belly up. I need some crude way to limit audio input to transmitter until our limiter can be replaced or repaired.
I know I can use some resister to cut anything above a certain point
but forgot the value of the resister. If anyone can help me out here I be most thankful.
Edited by Squatfm on 03/29/06 02:40 AM.

You are thinking of a component called a diode. Two diodes, with polarity opposite, will limit audio voltage to .7 volts. But the "clipped" audio will be distorted....this is not a good solution.
Is there no station in your area which would loan you a processor of some kind? Even an old "Volumax" or "DAP" would be better than an unfiltered diode clipper.
What make is your limiter? Most processor companies will Delta Dash a loaner....it could be at your station tomorrow!!

its an old westinghouse product...Looks to be about 50 yrs old...
Cant even tell what model...Just an am station that processor wont work on fm...

If the main processor is ancient Westinghouse, you need to put some serious thought into buying a new one. Not that I didn't once have a bad love affair with a thumpy, sorta loud Collins 26W of similar vintage, but that was at a pirate station in 1968.

Clean it up real good, polish the chrome, take a couple good j-pegs, and post it on e-bay.

You may find someone in Japan who will give you enough money for a good box!

Keep your modulation level low until you get a new limiter.
______________
