LIN-TV Vs. Dish Network

I think this kind of story is being seen more often these days and it's not just Dish. I saw a crawl message in Columbus, Georgia recently (on 2 stations) concerning possibly being dropped by Mediacom.

The article points out.....We are pleased the FCC is meeting this week to seek changes to the outdated retransmission consent process.......It seems we see these posts on here about twice a month now (Negotiations for carriage). I'd like to know what the FCC can really do to stop all this.
 
I remember when the QC lost 2 stations (not at once). Viewers wound up missing out on CBS programming for the entire month of August 2008! Good thing it returned just in time for football season. Then KWQC was pulled for a while, although that didn't last as long...
 
Looks like WTNH has lost me as a viewer as it's now impossible for me to pick them up via standard OTA DTV and Dish was the only way I was able to get them, even though they are about a 25 minute drive from my place. On the other hand ABC hasn't lost me yet as I can still get WGGB via OTA and they are over 40 minutes driving time away!

Oh and I nearly forgot to mention WCTX, I can't get them OTA either, exactly the same situation as with WTNH, except I don't have an alternate MYTV station to choose from.

(for the record there is only one program between the two stations I watch currently and that was on ABC)
 
As I wrote in another thread, I hope Dish stands their ground against LIN for their ridiculous demands of 140% increase in carriage fees. All that will do is trickle its way down to the customer in the form of increased costs.

If Dish can stand the initial heat from customers complaining about not having these channels hopefully they can hold out until LIN pulls their collective heads out of their backside and wake up to reality. If Dish's customers knew that if they accept LIN's new rate there would be a probably chance their bills would go up. Add to that who would be the next nut job extorting higher rates from cable or satellite providers? The madness has to stop now.

BTW: If it wasn't clear, I'm siding with Dish on this one - and I'm not even one of their customers! The greed machine has to be stopped.
 
Does LIN own any TV stations in northern New England? I'm aware of Springfield, MA (WWLP), New Haven (WTNH/WCTX) and Providence (WPRI/WNAC) in southern New England.

By the way, what ever came out of the debacle with Sinclair and Time-Warner in Portland with WGME-TV (CBS) channel 13?
 
What about all those greedy Oil Companies raising gas prices and trying to blame it on the uprisings in the Middle East?
Let's show 'em by walking everywhere from now on!! ;)
 
RIGHT! I think the federal government has about as much interest in regulating carriage fees
as it does in regulating oil prices........ZIP-O. The consumer gets the shaft.
 
You've got to start somewhere. Standing up to bully broadcasters' outrageous demands can be the start.

Unless somebody wants to go after the members of Congress getting their palms greased by the lobbyists and the oil companies there's nothing we as a nation can do about oil.

I voted with my wallet and left pay-television behind. It's been over a year and I'm not looking to go back anytime soon.
