wmxj has been under performing for years, maybe you have to be there but i would think that miami would have alot of older demos & retirees and SHOULD DO BETTER, unless its a myth that folks retire to florida.

The idea that Miami/Dade is packed with retirees is a myth. Broward, while certainly having retirement communities, is not that densely packed with retirees either. The fact is that the Miami metro is too expensive for most retirees. And the market is over 50% Hispanic... not the environment a lot of retirees seek.
Because of the high percentage of Hispanics... and the fact that Hispanics over 55 are nearly 70% Spanish dominant... makes for a more limited market for any kind of oldies and classic hits format.
Keep in mind, too, that stations can't monetize audiences over age 55 in markets like Miami.
I understand Lincoln has a new GM for their Miami stations. And when a new GM comes to town...WATCH OUT...They all have to make there mark now matter if its good or bad...They want to show "hey I'm the new boss and I know more than the old GM"
so where is the posting for the Marketing director position mentioned on here? i cant find it on their corporate site and I know someone who would be perefect for the gig.
Also, WTH would Majic go after WBGG, that audience isnt big enough to bother with anyway. They should really do something CHR and go head to head with Y100/Power96. Why not bring back ZZQ102 with a fast paced hard core CHR lean like Cox did with WPOI in Tampa. it only took them a few months to kill WFLZ and WHYI is prime for the taking as well. Anyone agree/disagree? of course they could also just simulcast WAXY on the 102.7 frequency for some REAL budget cuts.

WFLZ bills around $12 million and WPOI does $4 million. WFLZ is 1st in 18-34 and averages second or third in 18-49. WPOI is third and 5th. For a "killed" station WFLZ looks amazingly alive.
Miami has WHYI, WPOW, a significant Urban, WEDR, and two young appeal Spanish language stations, WMGE and WRTO, going after 18-34 and 18-49 with contemporary formats. The field is very crowded. Oh, and Tampa is 25% Hispanic while Miami is 50%... Tampa is 11% Black and Miami is almost the double. Miami: 70% ethnic, Tampa 25% ethnic.
That "rumor" re: Cumulus buying the Lincoln Financial stations has been out there for a long time and continues to be false. Cumulus' interest was there years ago when Lincoln went through that phase of selling its TV stations and sports broadcast division and Charlotte radio properties. I think that was almost 5 years ago.
Several of the industry trades supposedly hinted this week that something might be up, especially since the company made some employee cutbacks recently. But there's no connection there between the people adjustments and a "setup to sell."
Has been lots of talk about this issue before. Fact is, the Lincoln stations are still here. And a number of them are doing quite well.
