Lincoln Financial To Sell Stations To Raycom?

As has been speculated, it looks like Star 94 will have new owners soon; possibly Cumulus? Read on...

Lincoln Financial Corp., which last month said it was considering selling its broadcast division and put the unit out for bids to test the waters, has apparently gotten an acceptable offer from privately held television group Raycom Media for $1.2 billion, according to Reuters. [EDIT]

Do you think the guys at Cumulus are drooling right now? I bet the folks at Star are dreading a Cumulus buy-out.

So...what happens when/if Cumulus buys Star and inherits a morning show that sounds like and targets the same audience as the Bert Show? I'd say Bert moves to the 94.1 signal, but what of the Morning Mess?

So, if Cumulus gets Star 94, does that mean we'll get two "ten songs in a row" stations? LOL!

But seriously, Cumulus might be looking for a way to expand in the Atlanta market. Cox Broadcasting has had a tight grip on Atlanta for a while now. What better way to grow than to acquire WQXI and the world-famous Star 94 signal.

Starts to make you wonder what station would survive (Star or Q), what they would draw from the other station (talent, music approach, etc.), and what would be gone after the *potential* purchase.

As a longtime Star 94 fan, I sincerely hope that Star doesn't lose its identity to whomever purchases them.

The reports said that companies were bidding for individual Lincoln Financial radio stations, but LF wanted to sell them as a package. It's unclear whether Raycom will keep the radio, but they'll probably sell it.

If Star or Q went away, you could about bet the farm that CBS, Cox or Clear Channel wouldn't hesitate to give that poor, lonely CHR a competitor, and that the talent/approach lost would almost immediately be re-purposed.

Do you actually believe that if Cumulus got ahold of the 790 lease that it would stay with Steak and the boys?
They would be out on the street so fast it would make your head spin.
Rumors in the sales community have Cumulus already setting up plans for 790 to be the ESPN affiliate IF the sale was to come down. They would move all the ESPN syndicated stuff to 790 except for a local afternoon drive. Then they would have 680 live and local all day long.
I wonder if Cumulus would keep the great 790 sales team and have them sell for 680 and 790 as a combo deal?

My understanding was the Zone had a pretty iron clad contract that asurvives ownership change. Now I am sure there are some lopholes but they could be very expensive. Especially since technically 680 is not a Cumulus station can you spend all of Cumulus money which has more owners than the Dickeys to enhance the Dickey's personal property.

Also while they certainly can hire them, the 790 the zone sales team does not become their employees so it is not like you are actually keeping them because you never had them.
