Linda Lavin, star of Alice, 87

A top-10 series for four of its nine seasons. What a legacy that Linda left behind. May she RIP.
We have a Mel's Diner in Yakima. I wonder if the original founder wanted to give tribute to Alice. Old '50s-style diner BTW. I've had food there before.

The real Mel's Diner is located in Phoenix. The exterior shots of Mel's Diner in 'Alice' was this restaurant located on Grand Ave. in Phoenix, the city where the show was set. It's considered an iconic landmark.

I've only eaten there once, and found the food to be so-so. But then, that's better than what people on the show thought about Mel's cooking!

I really hate cancer

2024-2025 They can't find anything to stop it at all?

My Mom passed from Lung Cancer in 1986

My Friends Mom died of Cancer (Forgot which one) in 2015

She had surgery to remove it & a year later, it came back aggressive
 
Of the main cast members on Alice, only Celia Weston is still alive. She was Jolene, the waitress who took over after Polly Holiday (Flo) left for her own spin off series. Back in 2018, there was talk of a reboot, but it never came to fruition.

Polly Holliday (Flo) is still with us at age 87. Diane Ladd, who replaced her, and also starred as Flo in the movie Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, is also with us at 89. AFAIK, they and Celia Weston are the only cast members still living.

I had completely forgotten about Ladd, who played Isabelle. She was only around for the 4th and 5th season.
 
The final Barney Miller episode aired tonight on AntennaTV. Linda was included in the tribute to cast members who had left the show (her, Abe Vigoda, Gregory Sierra, and Jack Soo), even though she was only with the show relatively briefly.

Her "little voice" kept calling her "Isabelle." I don't know how anyone could have forgotten that.

But of those previously mentioned, only the above two are (apparently) still with us. Phillip McKeon, who played Alice's son Tommy, passed away several years ago. I remember posting his death notice here.
