Linking Pop Rock to Electro-Pop? (An alternative to pop/rock?)

What do you think of the new P!NK and Linkin Park songs? I think the new Linkin Park song is good, but don't really care for the P!NK one.

And how come P!NK has decided to go the electro-pop route when she's one of the few who have managed to do well with the pop rock sound all this time? Her new song totally resembles the style of Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson's uptempo material. You can feel a slight hint of pop rock, but it's heavily watered down pop rock and more on the pure uptempo pop sound. It's not even dance, per se. It makes One Direction sound more pop rock friendly in comparison

The new Linkin Park is also a little electro-poppish, but they did stay true to their roots with the guitar and pop rock / alternative elements thrown in. It actually sounds like an electronic alternative hit. I wonder if this track will be big on the pop charts. The fact that MGMT and M83 didn't really do much makes me wonder if Linkin Park's new song can pass...

I think the Maroon 5 and Cake tracks are good.

Hip hop and r&b has jumped on the electro-pop and dance trend. Now are alternative and pop rockers ready to completely go that direction in their own fashion as well? Will this lead to and "urban dance" and "alternative-pop dance" sound?

And if pop/rock and alternative artists jump on an electronic style of pop/rock, can alternative and rock ever return in a "timely" matter?

Both Pink and Linkin Park started with different sounds that doesn't make their foray into electronic pop all that hard to grasp.

Pink started out as an R&B leaning artist, and only went pop/rock on her second album, but her first album including hits like "There You Go" and "Most Girls" was definitely on the rhythmic side of the spectrum. Before she was a solo artist, she was also in an R&B girls group- so she's open to other forms of music than just pop/rock. Not to mention, she was also in the quartet of girls (quintet if you count Missy Elliott) along with Christina Aguilera, Mya and Lil Kim that remade "Lady Marmalade", which also was a rhythmic friendly track.

Linkin Park has always had an electronic element to their music. Sure, they rose to fame during the rap/rock era of the early 2000s, but there was always an underlying electronic rock element to their music.

I don't see their latest songs to really be any different or branching out from the usual for either act. They've always straddled the lines between musical genres.
