Links To Live Streaming Video Coverage Of Hurricane Dennis

With, from all indications, Huricane Dennis due to make landfall somewhere east of Mobile, Alabama (possibly just east of the border between Alabama and Florida), here are two links which will allow you to click and watch live coverage from Mobile/Pensacola area TV stations.

WKRG-5, Mobile/Pensacola (local CBS affiliate): http://www.wkrg.com (I had tried to paste the URL of the streaming video link itself, but had problems doing so; use the link above to get to the WKRG homepage and click-on the link on the homepage for the live video stream).

WPMI-15, Mobile/Pensacola (local NBC affiliate): http://www.wpmi.com/mediacenter/default.aspx?videoId=113739.

Or try http://www.wpmi.com.

Be aware that there is no guarantee as to the video and audio quality of the webcasts, due both to the expected demand from people trying to access them, and the weather. Depending on the intensity of the storm, it is possible that at some point, the webcasts may not be available due to either power failures or downed utility lines that may prevent these webcasts from being fed to "the outside world".

I hope these links will provide you the chance to see local storm coverage from the likely landfall area.

Sunday Afternoon Update On Video Streams Of Dennis Coverage

This morning and afternoon (I'm writing this message at 1:45 P.M. EDT Sunday, July 10th), I have been watching both the video streams of hurricane coverage from WKRG-5 and WPMI-15 in the Mobile/Pensacola area, which is where Dennis is expected to make landfall shortly (at this writing).

Both stations are doing an outstanding job, although I would give WKRG a very, very slight edge in terms of quality of news content. However, WKRG's stream is interupted from time-to-time, likely due to heavy demand and usage. By contrast, the video quality of WPMI's stream is better, and (at least while I've been watching) hasn't been interrupted.

I have been watching WKRG on my laptop and CNN (muted) on the TV. I personally liked watching WPMI, but the problem I have had there is that once you are on their stream for about 15-20 minutes, the stream cuts to a commerical and then video from eariler. WKRG has been very informative, and has provided great coverage.
______________

I've been watching WKRG, and the video buffers a lot. I tried pulling up the audio stream for WBHY-FM (Power 88.5), and all I hear is a loud noise like static.

WKRG is streaming at 273k so you have to have a pretty good connection for it to work, i get it pretty steady but with times where it buffers alot, I gave up on wpmi because all i was getting was an add playing over and over and over and over
______________

Apperently they shut down or had no power or something ?? That static was them off air I beleive, they poped back on once sunday night for about 15 minutes with TCM (salem) Cutting in and out then went back off until monday morning when they came back on at 6:45 with TCM until Alice did a morning show about 7:15... Shame they where not on thru the storm with news coverage/local info. Dont know if they lost power or shutdown for the sake of the storm coming.

I wonder if their streaming signal is actually being fed from the over the air signal, given that I was hearing static. It's a shame they weren't on, especially since WKRG mentioned they were a simulcast partner, and they're one of the few Mobile stations that streams.
______________
