LIR VS Radio-X

Here's a good topic, Alternative. Who is Long Islands true alternative station? IMO, I say its Radio-X hands down. They play more of the edgy alternative/new rock. LIR is Long Islands Retro- Radio. Thoughts?

I always liked LIR but I must admit that its mainly because of its long interesting history. I grew up with that station. I lived thru its changes (good and bad) over the years. And being now that new owners should be taking it over soon, we'll have another chapter of WLIR. It's a shame it now has a tiny signal on the East End.
Radio-X has made it a little further West, signal-wise. In its short history , it had quite a playlist but it tended to be more hard-hitting alternative, a little too much for my liking. I guess there's different levels of taste when it comes to "alternative".

Personally, it would be great to have either station in Nassau County. My brother lives there and it's true, FM Radio is absolutely worthless. I used to listen to the reggaeton station (92.7) when I was out there, but even that has been replaced now. Unless you like soft rock, trucker rock or brain-dead modern hip-hop, you will hate what this market has to offer on FM Radio.

Radio-X was terrific, probably the station most reminiscent of the late WDOX in South Jersey. They played lots of classic punk, post-punk and harder rock as well. The diverse playlist kept the station from ever getting boring. But like all good things, it's coming to an end. It will be missed.

WLIR is also excellent, but definitely more retro-leaning - not that there's anything wrong with that. I have listened to their webcast a few times and they sound far better than they did during their last few years on 92.7 - they eliminated the Mom Rock and cheesy dance-lite pop music from their playlist, while moving closer to their roots. They do play a good selection of currents, though some of them are head scratchers (Gym Class Heroes? Norah Jones?). Hopefully the new owners have a plan in the works to cover all of LI with WLIR. The airwaves are a barren wasteland in Nassau.
