Lisa Adams departs Star 101.5

The last time I listened to KPLZ was during the holiday Santa FM run in 2021. I tuned in again last year but no Santa FM. Lame.
It might never come back tbh. Maybe it might if the new program director brings it back with the new “Star” voice but the new PD might not considering there are already 3 FM Christmas stations and most Hot AC stations don’t flip to all-Christmas anyways.

I think that's what made Santa FM work--I think many folks never knew that there were other stations playing Christmas music 24/7 during the Christmas season as I only ever listened to KPLZ during that period. My wife and I were baffled and ended up just listening to Pandora.

Unless they're going to beat Warm 106.9 to the punch, it's not a slam dunk. And even then, most people in the area still associate 106.9 with being the go-to radio station for Christmas music. Star 101.5 made a conscious decision to try to maintain the status quo. If you've got 106.9, 94.1, and heck, even 105.3 in the Christmas mix, do not bother.

Well Santa FM started struggling to beat those stations when they started going after Thanksgiving/when the sound started doing Christmas music. It was worse when the sound did it especially in 2020 and 2021 cause SPIRIT 105.3 also did it early even beating Warm during those years. However I think it was still better than it was if they kept “Star” in the holiday season.

Oh, here we go again with Christmas Music history on KPLZ as the reason the station is struggling.
'Calling Judge Wapner!'

Santa FM did offer a “more contemporary” approach to Xmas music which did provide some differentiation. WARM is and will continue to be the Xmas music leader, regardless of how many stations choose to enter the holiday fray. What it really comes down to is revenue. Will you generate significantly more with Xmas music? If so….flip. If not, stay the course. Either way, most every station on the dial will loose cume to Xmas music….just the way it is.

Yes they did offer a bit more contemporary with the music but they played a lot of classics too.

It isn’t the reason why the station is struggling really. It mainly struggled since they haven’t had a strong morning show yet.

It is what made it work but it could never beat Warm probably because people believe it is the best Christmas station in Seattle. SPIRIT 105.3 isn't usually as successful as the secular stations probably because of the religious content though it is usually slightly better in the ratings than the other months probably because of the secular/religious mix during the Christmas season.

What does any of this have to do with Lisa Adam's departure?
I vote it's time to close this zombie thread.
