list of possible conversation starters

It's been a little slow lately, so in the public interest, here is a list of possible topics. Feel free to start a thread on any or all of them, so we'll have a new opportunity to insult and belittle each other.

1. WUBZ fires Matthews, hires Fish. Maybe a lot of money going out, maybe not a lot coming in. What's up over there?

2. WBLF plays "Yellow Submarine" over and over and over and over. Scuttlebut says live and local soon, with some more former Dame people on-air (no surprises there). Will they have Rush? Local sports? A morning newsguy who sounds like Drudge, only with a liberal streak?

3. WFBG in Altoona drops Dr. Laura and Dave Ramsey and adds Boortz and Gallagher. Anybody care? Anybody even listen?

4. WVAM Altoona bumps Dan Patrick's show to who-knows-where for local sports programming from Rob Egan and Rich Freakin' DeLeo. See question above.

5. WOWY carries Pitt football. Looking like a real bad idea right about now.

6. 99.5 not coming to Centre County any time soon. A minor setback for Forever perhaps, but maybe a larger blow to 2510/Nick Galli/Results Radio or whatever it is this week, and their plan to Jack-ify 94.5.

7. I find myself listening to 3WZ and enjoying it just a little. Does this mean I'm getting old?

8. WBUS is still boring. Discuss.

No, you’re not getting old – you just are reaching that age where you have the desire to hear EIFFEL 65 played 7 or 8 times a week…we all go through that phase

Yo listen up here's a story
About a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees
Is just blue like him inside and outside
Blue his house with a blue little window
And a blue corvette
And everything is blue for him and hisself
And everybody around
Cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

I'm blue da ba dee da ba die...

When I reach the age where I have the desire to hear Donovan's "Mellow Yellow"
six or seven times a week, and begin listening to WALY or WOWY, put a bullet in my head.

Hopefully by then, the programmers will realize that today's oldies is really late 70's, HEAVY on the 80's and some early 90's and you won't have to suffer too badly. What we think of as OLDIES is really becomming Nostalgia radio as the generation of the 50's and 60's ages. Supergold is quickly becomming SUPEROLD!!! But its safe to play as long as the old farts in Altoona and State College keep tuning in...Help us all!!!

What happens in 20 years when Fifty Cent or Nelly is coming up on the oldies outlets? "That was Frankie Valley Oh What a Night and up next...Its getting hot in here so take off all your clothes on WALY"...That will be fun to hear

Bobby D is worried about you! You listen to Jason and take some pointers - we'll listen to Donovan...his greatest hits album is not bad, it did sell a few more copies than Eiffel 65's Greatest Mid-Chart cd. Speaking of bullet...Elton John's "Fell Like
A Bullet in the Gun of Robert Ford" is pretty groooooooovy!

I like that song.

In 1995 CBS brought us THE ARROW format, ALL 70's and it was big for at least 9 months...in 2000 we had CBS once again give us the all 80's format and by year's end there were 145+ 80s stations - there are now fewer than 15. There are several different formats MUSIC OF YOUR LIFE (MOR), OLDIES, 80's...which after a year has to either become 80's and more (and you include 90s and introduce recur rents) Hot Ac - 80s, 90s and Today or an 80's and 70's based oldies which works in some markets. If you're going after 25-54 year olds, you're not an oldies station.

Magnum is just getting things tweaked where they think they should be.

News Talk 970 WBLF is coming SOOOOON!!!

> 3. WFBG in Altoona drops Dr. Laura and Dave Ramsey and adds

I would have kept Dave Ramsey. Adding Boortz and Gallagher are not bad ideas. Ramsey could be run anywhere during the day or night. It's constantly fed around the clock. It's LIVE from 2-5pm everyday.

> 4. WVAM Altoona bumps Dan Patrick's show to who-knows-where

Rob (Ego) Egan I can see; but, what does DeLeo know about sports to talk about off the cuff and on the fly?

> 5. WOWY carries Pitt football. Looking like a real bad idea right about now.

Might not be such a bad idea. They've only played one game so far. I think they should have put the NFL package on one of the FM's personally. That's the Sunday Tripleheader, Monday Night and any other special night of coverage from Westwood One.

It's too bad. Now, they get to figure another way of making another station work.

> 7. I find myself listening to 3WZ and enjoying it just a

3WZ has not been a bad station to listen too. However, I would get Jeff Brown back and put him on the morning show with Steve Jones. Grant Armstrong could move back to afternoons where he belongs. OR... put Grant on Lite 94.5 after Forever buys 3WZ for $8 million dollars.

> 8. WBUS is still boring. Discuss.

Like I said in #7, move Jeff Brown out of the Bus and put him on Lite 94.5 FM. The Classic Rock thing is not him. I would even think about putting him on WOWY 97.1 FM. Since, Forever and 2510 are practically bed buddies now.

They ARE sounding pretty good--where you can hear 'em. But did they ever get that repeater for downtown State College? The horse goes before the cart, right?

If your #1 assumption (not much money coming in) is right, this ain't gonna help. The Rush rumor is rampant, but it don't make sense. The dittoheads can hear him now on 670; why pay for the privilege of simulcasting?

Forever needs to buy WRTA and shift 'em to 1290.

Local ain't always better.

Anywhere but State College. In SC, the mention of Pitt just pisses people off.

Jack is today's Arrow. By the time they get around to it, it'll be just as dead.
>

AC is the Great Compromise. It's where you land when you can't find anything else. You must be there!
>
> 8. WBUS is still boring. Discuss.

Most classic rockers last around 5 years (See "Arrow"). Play it AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN, Sam!

WOWY hasn't been as great to receive in Clinton County since they moved to the inferior frequency of 97.1 from 98.7FM. If they were still at 98.7, they might have beat 3WZ instead of coming within a share point 12+? Maybe not, they don't seem to want to spend the big bucks on talent like 3WZ does and they don't even have Channel 4...that's one big mountain to climb.
