Listened to distant FM this morning

I picked this up on my way to work this morning. Its the only station I caught an ID on. Others were a Rock station on 98.7 playing Highway to Hell AC/DC and a Independant AAA on 91.9.

This one was loud and clear! ;D

Missed that opening :-(

But picked up the new iPhone recently and downloaded the AOL Player and a $5 program called Tuner that streams hundreds of stations from all over the US and world.

Just a few of the stations in the AOL Player which are CBS stations: WXRT, WBCN, WYSP, KINK, KROQ. The Tuner program contains what is essentially the SHOUTcast list of streamers that include many terrestrial stations.

In places where there is 3G service or WiFi you can listen to the high bitrate streams and the audio quality on many stations is better than XM, I work on the road a lot and I haven’t used my XM very much since getting the iPhone.

It’s incredible, a world of radio you can carry in your pocket. And it is surprisingly reliable driving down the highway, it rarely, if ever drops out. Just wish the battery life was better.
