Listener says they can hear WTVY in Atlanta

A few days ago a 95.5 WTVY listener called into Amie Pollard and said that he could hear WTVY in his car loud and clear on 285 West in Atlanta. Well being dumb as Amie is she believed him and aired it minutes later on the Morning show ,she even made a promo that ran several times that day out of it. She should not aired it because I certainly doubt a station out of Dothan Alabama would wipe out a station in Atlanta called 95.5 The Beat. Just another thing that has made her look dumb in this market.
I guess I need to call her up and tell her that I'm listening in Washington D.C. in my car to see if she airs it . Lol
 
I don't see how WTVY would override WBTS on 285 unless The Beat was off the air for some reason. A few years ago when 99x was off the air for some techical problems I got a decent signal from 99.7 out of Dothan. With 95.5's tower being a 35 miles northeast of Atlanta it would not be impossible for a skip of WTVY in the right conditions to actually override WBTS on 285 .
 
Oh don't be ridiculous people. Atlanta listeners have dumped their favorite stations and jumped on
board with TVY. Amie is now truly the queen of the south. Majic has TVY billboards up all over
the Atlanta market. Maybe that's why they're not at the lowly peanut fair each night, although
she will be the highlight of the greased pig contest.
 
Update: I just talked to a friend of mine that works at WBTS in Atlanta and he told me that they haven't been off the air in forever. He also said If they do go down it's only like seconds but that hasn't happened in the last two months especially during Morning Drive.

Fair?????? Maybe It's because Magic is so broke they can't afford to pay the overtime to thier employees for the fair. Ahhhhh The wonderful world of Magic Broadcasting.
 
Seems most of you here don't understand what can happen to a radio signal.

I'll try and explain this the best I can...

FM stations can expierienc "ducting" which is kind of like a "tunnel" in that it "sends" signals from one geographic area into another geographic area

There's also tropo which can help at distances as short of 100 miles and is kind of like AM skip, there one minute and gone the next.

It's very possible this listener heard them in Atlanta.

Oonce, while in high school... a local 50KW FM on 96.5 that wasn't more then 30 miles awat was clobbered to death and completely covered for several hours by an FM station on the same frequnecy over 1000 miles away!
 
that happened to me in memphis once. i was driving down winchester one afternoon listening to my radio station and suddenly i get something that was NOT my station. same frequency, but nowhere near what we played. after i tracked it down - i found out that the signal that i heard came from show low, arizona.

now that's a skip!

We have all noticed that peanut, has no clue when he/she talks, just a bunch of #@$#, i have recieved letters from iceland stating, calls, jock, and time they picked it up, 2.. who cares about amy pollard,3 this part is for everyone that doesnt get it.....Clean up your own yard before worring about others, I have never seen a radio group like T.R.P that listens, reads web sites and worries about everyone else, i can't tell you when the last time i listened to other stations, i worry only what i put on, T.R.P spend more time WORRING ABOUT TVY, here is a idea...listen to your own stations, and ask your self... are we putting out a good product to sell? and i think every station will answer...yes! so everyone...if Magic is broke ...who cares!! if T.R.P are stupid ....WHO CARES!!!! GET A LIFE

I got in on this on late, but I want to go back a few posts. Am I to understand that there are actually stations that PAY their jocks to work at the Peanut Festival??????
