Listener to voicetracked show wondering the time

..and this pertains to D/FW radio how?

All the voicetracking, satellite feeds, automation, etc., going on in the Dallas-Fort Worth area now.

Time and temperature jocks, of course, were a joke when I started. But time and temp was a service.

What reminded me of this was listening to KAAM late one night after an SMU Bball game. No time, no weather, no news, no identification of the songs played. Just a juke box.

Voicetracking is not evil. It has been around ever since I started in 1970 in the form of reel-to-reel carousel automation systems. But in those days, someone had to babysit the systems, and time, temp, news, PSA's and other information were usually integrated into the system.

So, there you go.

There is a board called "Off The Air" that would be excellent for these types of posts. :)

There is also a board called "Coast to Coast" in the specialty section that might be more appropriate as well.

I can't say if another Board would be more appropriate. There are so many other Boards, it's entirely possible. But the voicetracking discussion is interesting. A number of stations nowadays are just jukeboxes. KAAM at night is a good example. Haven't listened to 1190 lately, but they were including news as part of their automation. Automated stations in the 70's did include news, weather, weather bulletins, etc, so they were more than jukeboxes. As a listener, some of them sounded pretty good. Although, I do recall a Saturday when KWXI gave the same temperature all day long. ;D It wasn't perfect.

With all due respect, the moderator decides if a post should be moved.

You are correct. Consider my comment, along with the one from LazyJ, as more of a suggestion. You might reach a whole new audience and get a lot of interesting replies from all around the country.

there are always Russ posts. We have not had one in a while. Does this mean he will get his own board as well?

Oh boy, thanks for starting the Russ stuff up again ... ;)

If the weather is announced by a bona fide meteorologist it's a good thing; however, those jock weather reports designed to correspond to town names all of the same letter, say, "M", is kind of weird, especially when the jock misses the post and makes other errors the rest of the time.

Who cares what the time and temp are? SERIOUSLY? I mean i look down and my car tells me both.

Well, you are rich and have a new car.

What is a "bona fide meterologist"?

Are there fake meterologists around?

Tony

When I want to know the time, I look at my cell phone.

When I want to know the weather, I click the Weather app on my cell phone.

That way, I can read the same weather report that the DJ is reading, and I don't have to wait.

Radio is no longer the Go-To source for all your information.

In fact, I think my local bank tells the time and temp on its sign out front....

They're the ones who will never be a meteorologist but play one on the radio.
