Listening to streaming dance stations on cell phones?

With unlimited Internet on cell phones becoming cheaper, I’m seriously pondering getting a new phone that would allow me to listen to streaming dance stations. I would love to be able to have the audio go through my car stereo, either through a cassette adapter (yup, I still have a tape deck!) or one of those portable FM transmitters.

But which phones/providers are the best at being able to stream audio from dance stations? A while back, I tested T-Mobile’s Google G1 phone. I went to the streaming dance Webcasters list (the one posted on the other dance board) and picked a random station (it was either B96-HD2 or Energy 105 in Toronto)…and the phone’s browser did not have the necessary plug-in/software to do it.

You can also go to Audionow.com You dial in through an 800 number to listen. It sounds like a phone call but its free and only eats up minutes. Z889 is on the list for it.

I've never understood why some people think that a station has to broadcast to be better.

Thanks! That's an interesting concept...never heard of it before. For me, it's a good nights/weekends option. Unlimited minutes would cost more than unlimited Internet.

I've been tuning in to dance stations via my cell phone since June and it's cool!

Actually, if you have unlimited data and want to hear the streams via your car stereo, just get a mini USB to a 3.5"mm female adapter. Then you can either plug in a cassette adapter into the jack (if your car has a cassette player) or in newer cars, they actually have a built in jack for a digital media player. It's actually interesting hearing dance.fm from Amsterdam driving around NYC!

THAT'S a great station! :) Unfortunately, the only place I could see their playlist as a format is in New York City and perhaps Chicago, since you do have a lot of soulful house influences being heard there.
