Lite 100.5

It was certainly a heritage AC station. They signed on in the summer of 1983 and were AC for 22 full years until yesterday.

As far as being popular, normally competitor Sunny 106.5 kicked Lite's ass, sometimes by very large margins. The strange thing is that when I went into offices and stores that had AC on, I heard Lite on just as often as Sunny, about a 50/50 split over the past several years. Maybe Sunny was a stronger brand name with more recall power. Maybe when some people listened to Lite they thought they were listening to Sunny? I wonder if the AC race would have been closer with an electronic ratings system instead of the diary method? We will never know, the lite has been turned off.

Do not forget however, that before it was LITE it was KLASSY. KLASSY was very competitive with Sunny and often kicked its ass...It all went south when they flipped from KLASSY to "Soft & Contemporary" with LITE...WTF does "contemporary" mean to a listener?

"contemporary" means nothing to listeners. You are right, that's exactly when KMZQ went downhill. Even after they dropped that positioning statement they never recovered.

OK, I'll be the one to say it... If Infinity had done a better job with "Lite 100.5", they would never have allowed themselves to get beaten by KSNE.

So they abandon 20+ years as an AC to jump onboard the latest fad.
