Lite 102.9 versus K-104.7

Just curious what some Charlotteans think of these two stations. I will be making another trip down this week to Charlotte, and hopefully will be able to pick up Oldies 90.3 WRBK.

However, I have listened to Lite online and have heard K-104.7 before. Which is better in music, quality, on-air staff? Lite 102.9 has the Flashback weekend---a big thing that I probably will be tuned in to. I've heard Lite's new jingles as well over their on-air stream. They sound really good, and they are the exact opposite of WKQC's JAM package. While I'm more or less a 60's/70's music lover, I will probably be listening to one of these in the car.

So, I'm just curious about the following:

1. If you had to pick one of the two to stick with in the long run, which would it be?

2. Which music mix is better? Lite's or K's?

3. As for the on-air staff: Which is more entertaining and listenable?

4. Better Overall production: imaging, voiceovers, jingles, etc.

All opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Funny you would mention WRBK. It is recieved well in south Charlotte, and in fact, to a lessor extent throughout the area. I was in the area a few weeks ago and listened for 4-5 hours. WRBK is oldies, but it seems to be oldies 60s-80s. It has a pretty good jingles package but otherwise no personality. It seems to be on auto-pilot, with a pre-recorded weather forcast twice an hour. I amcurious about this station and wonder what its background is--who runs it, suppports it, etc. There were a few underwritng ads on while I listened. THe station has a huge potential in the Charlotte-Columbia corridor.

The last time I heard, the jingles branded the station as "Classic Oldies." Is this still true? Whenever someone announced a specialty show, he or she would always say, "On Oldies 90.3 WRBK," not Classic Oldies. Besides, if it is 60's-80's, those sure aren't classic oldies.

As far as the jingle package, some of it seems to be a rip-off of "Overture" from TM Century, especially the top of the hour.

I definitely enjoy no commercials, but the ads before the weather aren't bad compared to what I used to deal with on the late WCBS-FM and continue to deal with in the NYC area. I think no commercials are because the station is privately owned.

Well, I have a good week ahead of me---90.3, 102.9, and 104.7 on that tape recorder!!

So, I'm just curious about the following:

1. If you had to pick one of the two to stick with in the
long run, which would it be?

Lite 102.9

2. Which music mix is better? Lite's or K's?

Lite 102.9

3. As for the on-air staff: Which is more entertaining and
listenable?

I like everyone on Lite 102.9 except for Delilah (she has overstayed her welcome); K-104.7 only has an air staff of about 3 and all of them are boring!

4. Better Overall production: imaging, voiceovers,
jingles, etc.

The new jingles on Lite 102.9 sound more upbeat; K-104.7's automation system is always screwing up, espcially on the weekends.

I always listen to K104.7 when I can pick it up -- It sounds less "cookiecutter" and sounds fresher and more upbeat.

Also check out 95.7 FM the Ride when you're in Charlotte. They play some 60s stuff, mostly 60s-80s rock.

Uh now they have 4. Tom Jeffries beats Tony & Jen any day.

There shouldn't be any more automation screw ups on the weekends. Don't ask how I know...

Both have a very restricted and limited playlist. The 70's weekends help Lite and add variety.

Both can be great or horrible at times.

Tony & Jen and Delilah don't work for me. The others are okay on both stations.

Both are good. I like the deep rich Jam package on K but the new Lite jingles are interesting.

Both stations need to expand the playlist and stop all the voice tracking

About K104.7: They have an interesting slogan, according to their website.<P ID="signature">______________

Lite. Jocks are smoother & more major mkt sounding than K, including Delilah. Tom Jeffries mumbles, & Holly Haze always sounds like she has a cold.

Lite

Just got back from the trip---here's what I've found...

I'd have to go with Lite 102.9. Although they can be repetitive, I enjoy the 70's Flashback weekends, and the jocks sound warmer on-air to me.

> > 2. Which music mix is better? Lite's or K's?

While I enjoyed K-104.7's mix of today's music along with oldies (seems to be set up with a current followed by a classic, etc.), I must have heard "Still The One," "Baby Love," and "Unwell" at least four times each within a very small listening period---probably about 3 days of just casual listening.
> > 3. As for the on-air staff: Which is more entertaining

Absolutely. I didn't think I'd like Delilah, but New York City's Lite-FM has a love song request show at night, and I'd take Delilah any night over WLTW's Kennedy. The rest of the jocks fit in well too---nice to recognize Jim Shafer, Samantha Stone, and Ron Riley from Magic 96.1.

I think that K-104.7 repeats the same jingles too often. A bigger package may help. BTW---Does anyone know what JAM package K's jingles are from?
Lite 102.9's new jingles sound even better in stereo! Great mix of ramps, shotguns, and a cappellas!!!

K definitely sounds more upbeat, but the repitition can get to me after a while. But, all in all, it's really not a bad station! However, I tend to choose Lite.

I agree, after returning from the Queen City, on all counts except Delilah. I actually enjoyed her when I had the guts to turn on what I thought would be the worst hour of radio in my life. Not bad at all! I think that NYC's Lite-FM would be lucky to have her!
