Great guy Nick I worked with him, and I'm sure he'll land a job soon. There are like 28 years of experience that someone should take advantage of.

After seven years as PD/afternooner at CLEAR CHANNEL AC WLYT (LITE 102.9)/CHARLOTTE, NICK ALLEN has left the post and is seeking a new programming opportunity. Reach NICK, who also spent a decade at CC sister AC WMAG/GREENSBORO before WLYT, at (980) 253-4055 or [email protected]. Now as to a replacement, OM BRUCE LOGAN told ALL ACCESS, "We are looking for a PD who knows what tomorrow sounds like -- not the past. Need someone with a real vision for the format and its sound that understands online strategies as well, and can bring energy and life to WLYT. PPM experience is favored but not required. And no calls for this EEO post."
 
Based on this description, the name "Lite" needs to be a thing of the past.

K-104.7 could o it, but at night they're not "lite" that much.
 
It's "Lite" energy. These guys were told they should dump the name years ago, but they are selectively futuristic. And too smart for the room.
 
I remember when the station went from EZ to Lite and in the beginning the slogan said "Lite Rock" I left the station and noticed when I came back to town "Rock" was gone and it was just "Lite".
 
I remember WSPA-FM was Lite when they first dumped beautiful music but then they changed to Lite Rock, which was louder.

Anyone who thinks this station is Lite should have their head examined. Possibly for brain damage from alternative rock or dance music.
 
I long for the days when call letters still meant something...listeners knew their station by the call letters, not some prepackaged, tired moniker used in every metro area or market... It's Lite, It's Mix, It's Magic...yadda yadda yadda...
Occasionally, you will run across something a little creative, the coastal station that is The Shark, locally, The Ride is a little different... I am still waiting on 102 The Jew or 97 Doesn't Suck... or something different...
I really hate any business or media outlet that has to use MY________ on their name or website... MyToyotaDealer MyHospital, MyRadioStation...
Or, maybe I'm just out of touch...

Yep I like call letters too. I admit I'm a geezer.

Seems like other countries were using slogans instead of calls before we started doing it in the U.S.

Yep, I worked there then. We switched from beautiful music to soft ac as "Lite-FM 98.9." Dropping the calls, sans legal, and going for a new image. It was after Walter Brown died that the TV people got their hands in it (knowing they'd spin the radio properties off) and wanted to jack it up another notch. That's when it became "Lite Rock 98.9 WSPA" bringing back the calls too. This was also the time we were moved from the legendary downtown studios to a trailer in a cul-de-sac at the WSPA-TV newsplex. Often the Denon CD players would skip when the sewage truck would come to clean out the holding tanks. Tremendous broadcasting experience. No one had more fun with those moments than Rick Woodell who'd pause whatever was going on and explain on air what was happening. Perfect for office listening! Ah, man.....good times.

I also miss hearing John Gosnell -- he had quite a run on the 98.9 frequency.
