Lite 105 Is Now All Xmas Music

I made a vow this year to go against my personal grain. I will get into this holiday thing early and see what happpens. I plan on putting the tree up on Black Friday. I'm just that open minded. After all is said and done let's see if I still feel that celebrating Christmas early works for me. So bring on the Christmas music. I'm not fighting it this year.

My mom put up her tree on Saturday. She hasn't decorated it yet. And LITE 100.5 in Hartford has yet to flip to The Holiday Lite. This is early for her. Usually she puts it up the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I guess she needs something to take her mind off of her sick husband. (my dad).

No PD who has had success playing all Christmas music this early before is going to suddenly stick to his guns & say it's too early. First of all, it isn't too early. Retail is into Christmas already. Christmas movies are being released. It's part of the whole atmosphere. My only problem with playing all Christmas remains that to avoid repetition you're forced to play some of the most generic songs imaginable, or at least some of the most needless, generic versions of well-known songs imaginable. You can be more selective by limiting the playlist and working the songs in gradually, but precedents have been established & it isn't going to change. A lot of it is background anyway so who's singing what doesn't matter that much.

Exactly. As ridiculous as this sounds no radio station is in the business of entertaining people. They're in the business of making smart business decisions disguised as programming. Last year I think B101 went Christmas at the same time or a little before. I wonder if Clear Channel's repeater radio has anything to do with that not happening so far this year.
