Lite 93.5 WSBG not so "lite" anymore?

The A/C format continues to evolve. What was Lite yesterday....heavy doses of Phil Collins, Elton John, Gloria Estefan, Billy Joel, and Rod Stewart has been replaced by Rob Thomas, Daughtry, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, and Taylor Swift. Today's Hot A'C tends to feature all these plus lots of Nickelback and some rhythmic leaning product as well.

Soft and slow is not the way to go anymore in A/C.

The new AC is garbage. I hate Nickelback, Matchbox20 ect. Long live the true AC format. Neil Diamond, Barbara Streisand, Olivia Newton John (minus the Physical song), ect.!!!

Matchbox 20 kicks and so does Nickelback.

Barbara Streisand(grandpa ?) & Neil Diamond(grandma ?)...if pop pop and nannah want to time travel, let 'em by da satellite.

Yeah, if you want Babs, Neil, Anne (Murray), Karen (Carpenter), and the rest, you better get satellite radio. Those artists are no longer considered A/C.

You can still hear this music on "music of your life" and "easy listening" stations throughout the country.

Mr. Mathews, you must admit that Matchbox 20 and Nickelback are responsible for some of the most vapid, worthless drivel in the history of recorded 20th and 21st Century music. Now, if you are coming from a sales and ratings standpoint I understand. But, please tell me you do not like this garbage on a personal level! There are plenty of people who would respond to some true artistic class on the radio dial.

What I'm hearing is old AC belongs on satellite or in a closet and the new AC is garbage. I think what is considered AC today would be more fast paced and edgy than what it was 25-30 years ago. Metro Contemporary would be a better term for today's AC.

Rick_E...

It's the Pocono's Best Variety, 935 SBG. Their logo is too much 70ish I think and they cut off the music around 1990!

70 ish? I think the 70s are gone.

Much more 90s and forward now.......with some 80s.

Sounds pretty decent.

And they no longer call themselves "Lite Rock"...cause they're not.

Gotta disagree here.. Just checked out the website..Holy Crap!!! What a train wreck!! HORRIBLE!!!

I mean I'm a consultant, and this is why us guys get a horrible wrap. Not sure if De Mers is still involved w/ these guys, but damn, Nassau should get every last penny of their money back. The logo just outright blows, the new imaging sucks, and the rotation that I've heard..WTF??? They are so lost, playing safe w/ older top 40 hits instead of just doing it.. If your gonna run it CHR, just go w/ it, lots of confusion, and that whole Michelle Stevens safety thumbprint all over it.. What a cluster F!

They really had a chance to step up and conquer, but it seems like they are putting lipstick on the pig b4 they sell!!

Just my 2 cents...

Gosh plooker why don't you tell us what you really think ? :) It sounds like Hot AC to me. I think they sound pretty good, better than most. As for the logo ? I don't feel it is all that bad. Why so grumpy ? Did Nassau let you go once upon a time ?

Well it seems the Logo has a bit of the WPST flair to it...since they're both Nassau properties that's no real surprise. I don't think it's too "70ish" but thats just one man's opinion. They may want to update the banner on the website as it still states Lite Rock. If their playlist is indeed what many have stated on this post, that whole "Lite Rock" thing is nothing short of a misnomer. Helllloooooooooo promotions, marketing, IT, staff custodian or whoever handles these kinds of things for Nassau LOL!!!

As for the playlist, I have to agree as my local AC station has gone through the same evolution. It seems like ALL of our formats NEED to evolve to survive as: Oldies is now Classic Hits, Classic Rock is now into the 90's, AC is leaning more HOT AC and Hot AC seems to border CHR in many cases. Hell even Soft AC stations are becoming increasingly more contemporary. Its all about survival and that dreaded word "Research" that has REALLY done a disservice to not only radio itself, but also the the mere reason for its existence, THE AUDIENCE/PUBLIC!!

If you have an inkling of intelligence, experience or common sense it would seem "logical" that you could program a semi-successful station without the expense of "Consultants" that apply the same checklist of items from market to market, station to station. No one knows the market BETTER than the people who live, work and breathe it.

Sorry "Plooker" no offense intended... just one radio jock's opinion!!

;)

Love Radio..

No, never employed by Nassau, however my dealings as a consultant have always led me to smaller owners (Like Holt and Shamrock and several others of this micro size..)
So I have worked these markets, and understand them, and unlike most consultants, when I work a marketplace, I consume there, go out, meet folks, learn town names and idiosyncracies.... most folks in the industry don't do this..
Obviously you are a Nassau employee, and a homer, no prob, I totally understand you defending your turf, and commend you for doing such...
My problem with these cookie cutter swaps that Nassau, and a ton of other programmers, big ones like CC, Infinity, Millineum are all guilty of, is blasting something out in the public, without thought to the market they are entering.. esp. the small/ medium markets.. these guys work up a package, used already by several other stations to save money and force it into a market its inappropriate in...

to save money, but not to serve the interest of the unique small market they are trying to service.. and this is what is wrong w/ the industry as a whole.. These great brains who say what works in NY must work in Shamokin.. well it doesn't, and this WSBG debacle is the latest proof of this. I don't care what any of you out there think, I know this market, and this latest format swing is inappropriate, lazy and downright lame...

Hot A/C one second, top 40 the next, lite rock in between.. no focus, slopped together schmaltz with no understanding of the demo they shoud be servicing... say what you will.. I just call em as i see em..

The Nassau Blueprint:

Hot AC/CHR: take the top 250 tested songs, and play them until you can set your watch by them. (Which is usually the case for any HotAC/CHR in the country.) Use a positioner about 'music and variety'...
Country: take the top 250 tested songs, and play them until you can set your watch by them. (Which is usually the case for any HotAC/CHR in the country.) Name them 'The Wolf'...
Rock/Classic Rock: take the top 250 tested songs, and play them until you can set your watch by them. (Which is usually the case for any HotAC/CHR in the country.) Name it either 'The Hawk' or 'Frank'...
Active Rock: take the top 250 tested songs, and play them until you can set your watch by them. (Which is usually the case for any HotAC/CHR in the country.) Name it 'The Bone'
One formula for 40 something radio stations...and you wonder why they've gone under...aside from the frivoulous spending and devil may care attitude...
