LITE 94.3...Lights Back on

OK, notice that Lite 94.3 is back after being "temporarily off the air". What shut them down? Power failure from storms on Salem mountain?

I heard them, but weakly here in WB. The stereo light in my car kept flickering, mostly off. Same with the Gem station on --what-- 95.3?

The power was off at 100.1 WQFN for about 6 hours Tues. night (back on around 1AM); Salem Mtn is on the other side of route 6 nearby. 95.3 power was off for 8 plus hours too. 107.7 was off an hour Thur. when the REC had to fix a downed line in the Evans Falls/Vernon/Centermoreland vicinity. Power was off briefly on Penobscot...93.3 got knocked off then, they'll be sending someone. Heard of anymore outages??, post'em.

Did station owners ever hear of GENERATORS?
Ahh but Grasshopper, do generators not cost money? Who listens to the radio anymore for emergency information anyway? Most stations have long ago tossed out the window their commitment to serve the community in favor of their determination to rape the business community of every last dollar in return for a marginal on air product at best. Again I ask is it any wonder revenues are now in the tank? Not that long ago a few seconds of dead air was unacceptable. Now a few days of dead air is not unusual in some cases.

A few minutes of dead air was death? A split second between songs got you a tongue lashing. Remember when "How's your board work?" was an interview question? Now a days with automation, you'd expect it to be tight, but I can't believe how loose some stations sound. .25 to .5 dead air between songs. It sounds like who's ever running the board is listening with headphones on at max volume. To them the song is still fading, to the average listener, the song is over and it's dead air. And don't get me started about songs tripping in the middle of a chorus instead of waiting for the next "natural" break. Or maybe it's just me....

That may be one of the problems with our society: no tolerance for dead air, for pauses, for taking a little longer to do something. A driver passes me, then turns into his driveway halfway down the block; I don't accelerate from a traffic light the moment it turns and the guy behind me is already on his horn.

We used to get our news from the newspaper, then tv gave it to us nightly; that wasn't enough, so CNN gave it every two hours; then HLN provided it every thirty minutes; now we can get it updated frequently on cnn.com.

We are an impatient people, hurrying for nothing. So there is a second between songs, so we allow the music to settle in before we back-announce it. Yeah, I ran a tight board when necessary, but I also loosened up when the format allowed.

I never hear people saying, "I stopped listening to WXXX because they aren't tight enough; WZZZ is .25 second tighter and WYYY sometimes hits .00."

We need just a little bit of dead air, we need to slow our lives down a bit.

When WEJL was Music of Your Life the program supplier called that "Reflection Time". When I suggested that I edit the tapes to take out the 1 second pauses I got hammered!!! Isn't that what they do now on 102.3 FM?
