Congrats to Lite 99 for starting the Xmas songs. Great to hear. But will someone please buy them a second set of 8 songs? This one's gonna get worn out before Thanksgiving.

Do they even have a P.D. there?

They were advertising for a morning person/pd recently. Don't know whether they filled the job. Often today, jobs are filled before they're posted. (I don't know about this one or this company specifically, but it is a fairly common practice.) PDs today are more often order clerks than creative directors. Again, not just here, but at all the chain-owned stations. They execute rather than create. And they take the blame for the management screwups. (Disclaimer: I am not a PD, but I was one long enough ago to know the difference between then and now.)

As for the music: Wal-Mart's public address service has a wider variety and a more intelligent choice and flow. There are five gazillion versions of three gazillion holiday songs. A tight playlist can be a good thing. But the repetition rate on LITE 99 is way too short. Much as I like what they're playng, it gets so boring and easy to predict that I'll soon go back to my Victrola and my 78s.

Rumor has it that an un-named consultant from State College recently signed a multi-million dollar deal with "W" to help them compete with the Macy's music machine (he was once a music director and had a 103 share 12+) and will soon be working on the Wal-Mart Kwanza Day parade (The George Jefferson balloon is a killer). One of the secrets in the book he is about to write called "NORTH OR SOUTH, MY POLE IS BIGGER THAN YOURS" is to play IT'S JUST ANOTHER NEW YEAR'S EVE - Manilow and SAME OLD LANG SYNE - Fogelberg as a power from 12m-3p and as a regular 3p-7p then as a recurrent from 7-12m. The Christmas music business is cut-throat!

Is there a Radio-Info Classics archive somewhere? This should be kept for years to come. Loved the George Jefferson line.
