Lite FM and the rumors right "NOW".

OK, so we have rumors that WNUA could flip to Hot AC as NOW 95.5. Fair enough. But, we also have to consider this......

Could the Lite go out, to try and protect WNUA?

I mean, the stations would have so much overlap. In Cincinnati, "Warm" consisted of AC favorites, and it's an alright station. Then "Journey", owned by the same company (Cumulus), came in, playing a similar playlist, except a bit more modern. "Warm" CREAMED "Journey", and the station went country.

So, could the Lite shift older and/or softer to try and protect NOW? Or, is NOW all a smokescreen to launch an older, softer station?

It COULD happen, but you already have a crowded Classic Hits field (Drive, Rewind, WJMK, WLS).

We could also pull an "Entercom", by flipping WLIT to a Spoken-Word format and moving all listeners to NOW.

And that all depends..... how well does the Lite bill? If it bills well, CC is going to keep it. If not, launch a countdown clock for the Lite.

If it ends up similar to what Hubbard does with WTMX & WILV, WLIT will play mostly older songs while Now (if that ends up being the new station on 95.5) will be mostly newer songs. I could see WLIT going toward a Gold AC format while Now could go Adult CHR/Hot AC.

I don't see CC getting into the spoken word format, as they typically like to cyberjock (voice-track from other markets). It could be done, but spoken word formats need to be done at the local level, & CC isn't known for all local programming like Hubbard.

If they went Classic Rock, they would have to program it in a way that would get listeners away from The Drive & The Loop. With Merlin running The Loop, The Loop would probably get hurt in the ratings against a CC run Classic Rock, since Merlin doesn't know how to run their stations. I doubt though they'll go that route.

I say 95.5 will go Now & be an Adult CHR while Lite FM will go Gold AC.

I couldn't picture CC flipping a Lite property in a major market (Atlanta being an exception). Lite is like a CC trademark, kinda like Kiss-FM...

Apparently, you haven't spent much time in Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Raleigh, Columbia, SC...

Well, we all know now that didn't happen, since Mega is now El Patron and went from Spanish AC to Mexican regional. Looks like Lite will be around for perhaps another lucrative Christmas.

I saw that on another messageboard. Let's see how long El Patrón will last.
