Lite-FM Goes Xmas

Woohoo! This just gives me another reason not to listen!

I couldn't agree more!! Christmas Eve & Christmas Day fine ,but non stop for a month, not so much. I wonder are they doing it to please the sponsors , putting the public in the buying mood or do the ratings show the general public actually like it and tune in ? I know I will not be listening.

Usually, a station that flips to Christmas during the holiday season receives higher ratings. They also tend to bill the most money during that time.

This is something I can't understand. By the time xmas comes you have had enough, especially when multiple stations in the market are doing this ... ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

warm590 ;D

It's really stupid and pathetic when more than 1 station in the same radio market does the christmas format. WTRY went all xmas not long ago and Magic 100.9 has to go and copy them, the people at 100.9 who make this decision every can't be playing with a full deck. Talk about competing, what Magic should really do is compete with WTRY with the oldies from 55-89 all year. Now that is something I would love to see.

Playing songs from 55-89 all year? Now that's a nasty little trainwreck just waiting to happen.

Like it or not, X-mas music does well for the AC & oldies stations that do it. Both in ratings and cash. And if you look at alternatives like satellite radio, they do it as well with a few of their older skewing channels.

I know that. WTRY and WKLI's "Magic 100.9" has the same format playing Christmas music also.

Exactly! It also doesn't help that they play the same damn Christmas songs every year. I've heard Nat King Cole's "Christmas Song" so many times its rediculous.
