Lite-FM Going All-Christmas...

D

Well, eventually, it's going to happen... But if you observe the last few years and its competition (WPLJ last year) as well as getting early jumps on Lite (WNEW the year before), you would wonder if, this year, Lite is not going to wait until late November to make the switch. That's just my gut feeling - especially when you look at radio stations right now already teasing their Christmas music format...

So the question is, would WLTW seize the opportunity and get a jump on - well, itself - and entrenching itself as the holiday music station, thus giving other stations second thoughts (although it does bill well)... But I think Lite would make a statement if they made the switch, say, sometime next week.

This is not a rumor, just a theory. Discuss.
______________

Actually a few radio stations have gone all Christmas. KOSY in Salt Lake City, WNIC in Detroit, and a few others have gone all Christmas. A station in South Jersey started in mid October!

KJOY goes all Christmas, right? Well, I guess WALK doesn't feel threatened since they announced the date. Also, WALK's signal is stronger than WKJY.

It is possible that Lite may switch to all Christmas very soon. I thought Mix was going to go all Christmas, but it doesn't have that thing on the website anymore. Perhaps they backed out? Maybe Lite will go by their original plan, unless someone else goes all Christmas, then they will. I wonder if WPLJ will do it again, or WXRK will stunt since Free FM is coming soon. We'll see!
______________

Re: WALK FM going ALL Christmas Nov.25

If anyone listens to WTRY online for oldies, they are going all Christmas music too i got it in a weekly listener club email heres what it said in the email:

WTRY Is Preparing For The Holidays!
With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, remember, WTRY will once again be your soundtrack for the season. WTRY will become your Holiday Superstation playing holiday music round the clock! More details coming soon!

CC also owns them.

If it's any indication, in Chicago CC's WLIT (Lite FM) has announced that they'll flip to all-Christmas on Nov. 18.

Re: WALK FM going ALL Christmas Nov.25

WALK-97.5 could end-up going all-Christmas prior to November 25th. With WALK having made a public announcement of when they'll go all-Christmas, WKJY-98.3 could "jump the gun" and take the plunge sooner. And if WKJY goes all-Christmas much sooner than November 25th, WALK will have to quickly follow suit in order to avoid losing their position in the marketplace as "Long Island's Christmas Station".

Remember too that WALK owner Clear Channel is the most agressive company in terms of programming all-Christmas formats.

By the way: This afternoon (November 4th), WSNI-104.5 in Philadelphia went all-Christmas.

Last year, Philly AC format rival WBEB-101.1 also went all-Christmas, but they have not as of this writing (4:55 P.M. EST).

Sunny 104.5 in Philly Flipped the Christmas Switch Today

Current song on 104.5: Holly Jolly Christmas
50 days until Christmas, and I'm already hearing Christmas music. And this year, it's not a preview weekend. Some trees are still green, it will be 70 degrees this weekend, and I still have tons of Halloween candy.

Re: Sunny 104.5 in Philly Flipped the Christmas Switch Today

Last year, WSNI-104.5 ("Sunny")'s format rival in the City Of Brotherly Love, WBEB-101.1, also went all-Christmas.

According to Yes.com's listings of songs played, WBEB is still programming (at this writing, 5:15 P.M. EST November 4th) their regular AC format. That may not last long.

...that they will be going all Christmas the weekend before Thanksgiving. The regular AC format will last a couple more weeks Joseph.

Radiolover 78 was saying how he thinks WALK isn't worried about losing listeners because the signal is a bit stronger than WKJY. On Wednesday, I had to go to the East end of LI and I was able to listen to WALK longer than KJOY. I don't think WALK is worried about "losing their position as Long Island's Christmas Station". It is a well established station that has loyal audiences. WALK always seems to be the winner, no matter what.

Didn't WBEB and WSNI-104.5 both start all-Christmas programming last year around the 10th--11th--12th of November??

This year, Sunny started earlier, but B apparently will start a week later than last year (if indeed my memory is correct).

I'm quite surprised that both Sunny waited until yesterday (November 4th) to go all-Christmas (I thought they'd flip on the 1st) and that B will wait another couple of weeks before they take the plunge.

But on the other hand, doesn't B have more listeners than Sunny?? Maybe B thinks that they don't have to go on the Christmas bandwagon so early and will still be the top AC format in the Fall book even with Sunny getting what appears is going to be a two-week head start on the Yule tunes (provided B doesn't surprise everyone and go earlier).

I believe it was around one of those dates.

Yeah, I think it is about a week differenece for both stations. I seriously think there aren't that many people who want all holiday music now. B made a good decision.

With SEPTA on strike, the temperature in Philly today 73 degrees and many trees still havent changed from green, I think you're absolutely correct.
