Lite-FM Is All-Christmas

... as of 5PM today, November 9... not even double digits in the month, and we're weeks from December.

Gee, too bad CBS blew up Fresh, they can't duke it out with them... or can they?

I won't listen to 93.9 till Nov 25 when I get the Christmas decorations up. How about you?

I'll probably listen to some Christmas music before then. But not the stale "Christmas Lite" presentation.

Come to think of it, I won't listen to them at all. (Save for perhaps a short "sampling" or two). I'm a guy who really likes the Christmas season. Christmas music is a big part of that, so I'll go to my iPod and various online sources...or WMBI....for the full experience. Not the "Lite" version, thank you.

ZZZZ! I'll pass. I can program a better playlist of Christmas songs then they do, and I won't have to repeat the same songs every couple hours (and insert shmaltz in between the songs)!

It seems as if 93.9 has been going all-Christmas earlier and earlier in the month of November:

2011: November 9
2010: November 12
2009: November 14
2008: November 14 (that year, their website originally promoted a switch to all-holiday hits on November 26!)

Meanwhile, in 2006 and 2007, Lite flipped the Christmas switch on November 2 - the latter year partly to beat 105.9 FM to the punch. In 2005, the date was November 18. I think 2005 was the first year WLIT went all-Christmas before Thanksgiving, but I could be wrong.

Of course, CBS had no real intention of flipping 105.9 to Christmas music--their fake announcement was designed to force WLIT to jump and then they'd launch Fresh to counterprogram.

And just a reminder--for all of you who pooh pooh WLIT every year, two words: 12 shares. No Chicago radio station gets that at any other time of the year--and the last time you saw an over 10 share at any time in Chicago, Uncle Bobby was pulling down those numbers at WGN.

now if im not mistaken did fresh go all christmas the year after they launched ?

I think they did, but they did it gradually and later in the season if I recall correctly.

I recall one year 100.3 went all Holiday Music before 93.9 switched. Lite had the date posted but when 100.3 switched within hours they made the switch. I do not recall Fresh being all holiday music other than on Christmas. Most stations usually switch sometime on Christmas eve and switch back on Dec 26.
