Lite FM plays rap now!!!

nd2023

I heard a couple songs this morning I think should never be played on an AC station. Will Smith - Getting Jiggy and Jump Around were played on 106.7.

You must be mistaken. I checked both Mediabase and Yes, and there's no sign of these songs. Sounds pretty hard to believe that Lite would play either of these songs anyhow, especially "Jump Around". They may have gotten a lot less "lite" over the years, but I still wouldn't expect the current incarnation to go this far.

If anything, I wouldn't be too shocked if Fresh played "Jiggy".

If true, that would make for an interesting updated commercial - you know, the animated one with the office workers dancing at their cubicles...

Is it possible you were picking up another station on 106.7? Maybe Fun 107 in South Jersey - after a format flip?

The tropo last night was exceptionally strong, and I would surmise that it was probably as strong this morning, so he probably did hear that South Jersey or Harrisburg station instead of Lite.

You're right. It was Channel 106.7 in Harrisburg, I was just flipping through the stations and didn't stick around long enough to hear an ID on 106.7. I just noticed the signal was strong and there was no co-channel interference on 106.7 for the few moments I tuned in. I just didn't think that Channel 106.7 would completely overpower my reception of WLTW, but this was one strong tropo opening.

But I would not be surprised if Lite played those not-so-Lite songs, considering I heard songs like that on Fresh.

Ya can only push the envelope so far if you call yourself "Lite".

Anything that raps would certainly not qualify as "lite."

Fresh has played "Jiggy", "Miami", Diddy's "Missing You" S&P's "Shoop", "Whatta Man" and rap versions of "Meet me Halfway", "Hips Don't Lie", "Rich Girl", "Doo Wop, That Thing" and "American Boy".

I think Lite played Mambo no. 5 a few times (but that's not considered "Real Rap" is it)?.

That's a rhythmic song, a remake of a decades old Dámaso Pérez Prado tune.

Yesterday I heard a song on Lite FM that's also questionable for an AC format : Lady Gaga - Alejandro (it was definitely Lite FM because I heard it on my HD radio which showed the call letters)

This is why I don't listen to any of my local AC stations except for 107.1 The Breeze.

If anything, I'd say "Alejandro" is the most AC-friendly song she's released. If AC stations can play Ace of Base's hits, then I don't see why this is out of the question.

The average soccer mom would not want her kids to see the music video of Alejandro. Or for them to analyze the lyrics of that song.

In a perfect world, the Clear Channel stations would share very little music that the other CC stations play. Z100 would be all CHR/Pop, KTU would be current dance and pop remixes, Q104 would be classic rock with a huge, deep library, Power 105 would be all urban (sharing only a few Rhythmic tracks with Z100), and Lite FM would be soft AC (sharing only a few tracks with Q104 and Z100)

We don't need Lite FM to sound like Z100. Let Fresh and PLJ get the Adult CHR listeners, and keep Lite lite.

As I said before, since Lite FM has strayed from its "lite" format, hearing those songs on 106.7 just made me realize that today's AC is going down the gutter. Just down the Turnpike, Magic 98.3 has Usher - Yeah in its rotation.

It's a little reassuring to know that I was hearing a distant station with a different format.

The average soccer mom would think Alejandro was an old Madonna record...she wouldn't know the difference. And if kids analyzed the lyrics to half of the songs on ANY music station they'd find something offending.

I STILL feel offended when I hear "relax, don't do it! when you want to *** to it!" AND "Oh what a night, late December back in 63..."

The average soccer mom would not want to take her kids to a Mets game in which Lady Gaga is in attendance. ;D
