Lite trying to sound fresh?

On Sunday I was subjected to 106.7 in a store and heard these 3 songs in a row, No Doubt "It's My Life", Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under the Bridge", Prince "I Wanna Be Your Lover".
The 2nd song was a real shocker, never heard that on any A/C before. Sounds like Lite is going even more Hot AC now with Fresh on the air. Too bad there's no station for soft music in NYC anymore, I guess CD 101.9 is the closest thing we have to that.
You'd think with such a huge office market, a station would be a "listen at work" station. Yeah Lite FM thinks they are that, but listening to that station, like when I'm in a store maybe for 20 minutes, it's sheer torture. I'd rather listen to Muzak.
Muzak actually has several decent soft rock formats, unlike the radio dial.
Fresh is actually easier to listen to than Lite, they are more focused, and aren't playing 5 tired disco songs an hour. The music seems softer, but newer than Lite. Sure there is less talk, but isnt that the whole idea of an AC anyway?
Lite is pushing the limits of their audience, hopefully they will tune to 102.7 instead, and turn out the "lite" for good. I dont get what CC is thinking with all the playlist sharing between 103.5 and 106.7, it's pretty disgusting.
I dont know anyone can think "Under the Bridge" and "Finally" (Cece Peniston) are even remotely Lite.
All I know is I'm telling that store that if they don't change the dial off 106.7 I'll be changing my stores.
I will suggest they put on 102.7. It's soft and contemporary, that what is ADULT CONTEMPORARY is all about.

You are right, but Lite FM has been known to play Hey Ya as well. They've also played cuts by Boston, Pink and Coldplay (I've heard Pink on Fresh as well).

It's My Life on a mainstream AC these days doesn't surprise me at all. A classic by Prince doesn't either.

The Chilli's song does surprise me a bit. It's been on Hot ACs.

But then again ... What is Light or Soft today? Soft Rock ten or 20 years ago was softer than what was on a CHR, UC or current Rock station.

Light and Fresh today are ... softer than what's on a CHR, UC or current-based Rock station.

The generation of women who listened to soft rock in the 70s now have grown-up female children who are in the AC demographic. I don't think we can expect the ACs of today to sound like the ACs of 30, 20 or even 10 years ago.

AC has been losely defined as the format that appeals to 25 to 54 year-old women, with a core of 35-44. As different generations with different musical tastes move through that demographic, the stations change.

Lite-FM is light by today's standards, also Fresh does play "soft music" by today's standards. Things change.

It's not your mom's soft rock station.

I agree with the above post. AC stations are still soft. All they are doing is staying fresh. As their adding currents from Kelly Clarkson, James Blunt, Nick Lachey, etc. They still sound good by mixing songs from current artists along with songs from Chicago, Genesis, Rod Stewart, Richard Marx, Michael Bolton, etc.

But how Lite-FM is they sound all over the place for a AC. Go to another city and listen to that AC they stay on focus. I don't think going from a 70s disco song into a song like What's Left of Me - Nick Lachey is good. Im sure other people would agree Lite-FM does play a lot of disco songs mixed into regular AC songs. Why not just leave the disco type songs to KTU. But if Lite-FM doesn't want to we got Fresh 102.7 to listen to which I think will do well.

Didn't Pink Play at 5am the Day Fresh Launched?

 Am I the only one who misses 102.7 FM the Dance Music station, minus the Rap? KTU is not dance music for those of us who grew up in the 60's and 70's. Lite is nice, but every now and then, I like to feel alive.......................
