'Lite's out for Valerie Smaldone!!!

Well they don't need to bother searching for an outside replacement. They already have a suitable in-house candidate to replace Valerie. Weekend host Nina Del Rio has been serving as Valeries sub on a regular basis. They can just promote Nina to take over the mid-day slot on a full-time basis.

I got the picture. I was mentioned a few weeks back on one of threads that Al Bernstein was let go from "Lite-FM", as Valerie Smaldone, yes! she's out at "Lite-FM". She is the last one on board that let go. I've listened to "Lite-FM" about a month ago when Valerie was on, and heard it for a number of years where "Lite" has been #1 for over 20 years.

I guess the CC Joker got rid of a bunch of "Lite" people. Here are the lists of people that got rid of WLTW including:

1. Steven E. Roy
2. Bill Buckner
3. JJ Kennedy
4. Al Bernstein

And now...

VALERIE SMALDONE!!!!

I missed here when she was on WLTW's "Lite-FM". That what I saw on the Dentist's board when Allan Sniffen was posted on the NYRMB.

I guess the Joker at Cheap Channel got rid of all of these people. Who's going to take over Valerie Smaldone? Maybe Batman and Robin will join "Lite-FM" for 2008. Just kidding!

Let the laughfest begin!

There is no comparison between Valerie and Nina. I would actually prefer to see long-time Lite part-time jock Jack Kratoville get the slot. I find him much more entertaining than Del Rio. Nina just doesn't sound like she's enjoying herself on-air. Regardless, WLTW is a shell of its former self, with regards to both the staff and music. I've been tuning in less and less, and this certainly isn't making me want to tune in more often.

It's sad, really. And management expects Lite to keep raking in the numbers (ratings and billing)? It seems like messing with a good thing has been Clear Channel's goal these past two years with WLTW. God knows, they're certainly succeeding.

Most importantly, BEST of luck to Valerie. She's very talented, and I'd be surprised if she didn't wind up somewhere. Anybody would be lucky to have her!

thinking that djs are interchangeable is always the kiss of death where the station's fans are concerned...the lite went out in NY

CC Did the same thing in LA when they booted Ted S. from middays on KOST a couple weeks ago. He had been there for something like 20 years. I guess there is a ceiling to how much anyone can earn, (if you are air talent).

"Nina just doesn't sound like she's enjoying herself on-air."

No offense meant towards anyone, but I really don't understand the comment. How can you tell if someone on air is enjoying him/herself when all the LITE DJs are basically liner card readers?

If you pay attention to the style of someone like Kratoville, Smaldone, Kennedy or Bernsetein, they still managed to project some sort of personality even if they were just simply announcing songs. It's more of a friendly, intimate, adult way of communicating.

Exactly. It's subtle, yet quite noticeable. I just don't get that from Ms. Del Rio - and no offense to her at all -- it mustn't be easy just saying "New York's 106.7 Lite-fm" over and over and over again. Maybe it's just me. I don't know. It's just my opinion.

With that being said, Stephanie, I appreciate you better distinguishing my comments; you hit the nail right on the head.

I believe the former midday personality's name on KOST is Mike Sakellarides, and Kim Amidon, of the Mark and Kim morning show on KOST was also shown the door eariler this year. It's just not a good year if you're working at a CC AC it seems...

Unlike the Others Valerir herself decided to Not renew her Contract. She is leaving on her own and Not actually getting the boot,if you believe everything at All Access.

Yep, Stephanie hit the nail on the head....when you have a DJ that sounds like she is talking to you as an individual, thats the mark of a true professional. Valerie should have no problem getting hired anyplace, but the way things are going, a DJ is an endangered species. Getting paid what you are worth is another problem. Let's hope for a great '08!!

happy new year!! ;D

warm590 :D

It's been a CC tactic. Offer the Midday person (regardless of talent and tenure) a big pay...CUT, and see what they do.

Some stay, some go.

God Forbid you make a living in this business. The folks at CC think everyone should make San Antonio salaries.

In NY you need $75,000 just to not collect food stamps (just kidding...)

But a mansion sized apartment in SA is under $1000....maybe $750.
