Little Drummer Boy

Anyone who has been in the business has great radio stories to tell. This one is one that happened early in my career.

Years ago (late 60's) as PD of WYRE in Annapolis, Maryland we contacted a jingle house to buy those generic commercial tracks and generic jingles for spot production. Carl Marcocci, who was then the GM, made the call and set an appointment with Henry Onorati from the jingle house. It was durng the appointment with Mr. Onorati that Marcocci asked me if the name rings a bell? Onorati went on to tell the story of his days at 20th Century records and that he was one of the writers of Little Drummer Boy.
According to Onorati, Harry Simeone met with Onorati and played a demo of the song. Onorati said that there are no more Christmas Classics and turned Simeone down with a caveat. Onorati told Simeone that they would release the song in return for writing credit. Onorati told me he didn't wrte one word. Wow, can you imagine the royalties from that song! There have been other versions of this story. One, in fact, is the exact opposite, however, this is the one that Onorati told me a zillion years ago.

Par rum pa pum pum. Does that make you a hundred years old?
I wrote "White Christmas" while a member of the clan in the 1940's living
in Birmingham Alabama. Those were the days.
