"Little Mosque"...Funny or otherwise?

How about some comments on this program that I feel sure will NEVER air in the United States?

I read an article recently that said that some cable channels in the US had expressed interest in the series.

But as for it may never air in the US -- you could say that about most "made in Canada, for Canada" programming (except for "Red Green" and "Anne of Green Gables").

Also: Degrassi?

Deal or no deal Canada would be great to see in the States (on GSN)

Why not CNBC? They carried reruns of the US DOND (as well as 1 vs 100).

(Should that post be in the DOND thread?)

Going back to the original topic, I've watched Little Mosque and found it pretty funny. Maybe not absolutely hilarious, but still a fun show to watch.

And, I think there is some chance of it airing in the USA. I mean, "The N" digital cable channel shows quite a bit of CTV programming, particularly "Degrassi: The Next Generation" which will also enter OTA syndication this fall across the USA. And Corner Gas will be on WGN Superstation at some point as well. Even ABC Family showed a slightly Americanized version of Falcon Beach.

I'm not sure who would be the best fit for Little Mosque here in the USA. I almost want to say PBS, but they don't have much of a tradition of programming sitcoms. I think FOX or ABC could be suspects - or a dark horse could be NBC Universal, who could perhaps show it primarily on Bravo, but occasionally screen episodes on NBC to build buzz and increase sampling of the show.

...say what? Does "Are You Being Served?" ring a bell? "Keeping Up Appearances"? "Fawlty Towers"?...

They're not sitcoms they're Brittish sitcoms...um...wait...moot point...never mind.

Well, they are "Britcoms" - but does that audience translate into an audience for a Canadian-produced sitcom about Muslims? Britcoms are often repeated ad nauseam, and yet because of their British flavour, audiences seem to like them quite well.

"Little Mosque" would be first-run, North American produced comedy, and PBS hasn't done much of that. They should do more of it, IMO.

Did you pledge?

I might pledge if they actually ran some original North American sitcoms. But around pledge time here, they drop all the normal, interesting PBS programming to run pledge specials ad nauseam, most of which amount to little more than home shopping with a psuedo-intellectual veneer.

Good point.
I guess they figured their current pledge format brings in the greatest revenue...better than what it would if things were done differently...
